Job Description

Part-Time:
25-30 hours per week
Location:
The Seneca Museum of Waterways and Industry & Seneca Falls Museum and Tourism Center, Seneca Falls, New York. We're looking for a friendly, dependable person to join our team at our small museum in Seneca Falls. This position is retail oriented focusing on our gift shop. This role also engages directly with tourists and residents to provide hospitality, provide visitor information, and making sure everyone who walks through the door feels welcome. If you enjoy meeting people, have retail experience, and like working in a place where every day can be a little different, this could be a great fit. Key Responsibilities
    Visitor Welcome:
    Greet visitors and help create a warm, welcoming experience. Answer questions about the museum, exhibits, admission, programs, and things to do in the Seneca Falls and Finger Lakes area.
      Retail Inventory Management :
      Monitor inventory levels, create attractive merchandise displays, ensure items are appropriately tagged and priced.
        Front Desk Operations:
        Answer the phone and respond to basic visitor questions. Help with membership, donations, and other museum activities. Let visitors know about upcoming programs, events, and special exhibits.
          Facility Upkeep :
          Keep the gift shop neat, organized. Help open and close the front desk and gift shop. Maintain clean, organized brochure racks, restock maps, and ensure the lobby and gift shop areas remain tidy, dusted, and presentable.
            Special Events:
            Assist with special events and programs when needed.
              Additional Duties:
              Work with other staff and volunteers to keep things running smoothly. Pitch in wherever needed — we're a small museum, so flexibility and a willingness to help are important! We're looking for someone who is:
              • Friendly, approachable, and comfortable talking with people.
              • Reliable and responsible.
              • Comfortable handling money and using a computer and operating a POS system.
              • Organized and pays attention to details.
              • Able to work independently but also enjoys being part of a small team.
              • General familiarity with Seneca Falls, the Finger Lakes Region, or the New York State Canal System is highly desirable.
              • Comfortable standing for extended periods. Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
              • Previous retail, customer service, hospitality, or museum experience is preferred
              Hours:
              This is a part-time position, approximately 25-30 hours per week. We are a museum that hosts visitors, programs, and special events, availability to work evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays as needed is required. Scheduling will vary depending on the museum's hours, events, and seasonal needs. Why Work With Us?
