Plenty Downtown Bookshop is looking for a bookseller who believes a good bookshop is about more than books. We're looking for someone warm, observant, dependable, and genuinely interested in people. Someone who can make customers feel welcome without making them feel pressured. You'll serve as an anchor on the sales floor, helping shape the customer experience and the day-to-day rhythm of the shop during your shifts. Book knowledge is helpful. People skills are essential. We can teach you about our books, systems, and inventory. What matters most is warmth, attentiveness, initiative, good judgment, and the ability to make people feel at home. Sometimes customers come in asking for books on sensitive topics, the right bookseller will be able to handle these conversations with respectfulness and maturity. What You'll Do Welcome customers and create a warm, unhurried atmosphere Pay attention to the sales floor and recognize when someone needs help—or space Learn our inventory and grow more confident making recommendations Operate the register and handle sales accurately Keep the shop orderly, beautiful, and inviting Receive inventory, restock shelves, and maintain displays Support your coworkers and take initiative when something needs to be done Serve as a dependable steward of the shop during assigned shifts We're Looking for Someone Who Is Warm and personable: You genuinely enjoy people and connect with them naturally.

You do not need to be a walking encyclopedia of books. Extensive book knowledge is wonderful, but we care more about your ability to connect with people, listen well, learn quickly, and create an experience that makes customers want to return. Schedule This is a part-time position requiring consistent availability. We are considering either of the following staffing arrangements: Separate weekday and weekend booksellers: one bookseller primarily working Monday-Thursday and another bookseller primarily working Friday-Saturday One bookseller consistently available from open to close Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday Shop hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday-Saturday. On one Friday each month, West Side merchants remain open until 9 p.m. Some flexibility beyond regular shop hours is helpful, as Plenty hosts events throughout the year. Booksellers enjoy a generous discount on all books and merchandise in the store.
