Job Summary Midlothian Swim Shop is looking for a friendly, dependable, and energetic Retail Assistant to join our team. We are a specialty swim retailer serving competitive swimmers, swim teams, recreational swimmers, and families throughout the Richmond-area swimming community. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people, provides excellent customer service, and is willing to learn about swimming products and equipment. Our Retail Assistants help customers find the right swimsuits, goggles, training equipment, team apparel, and accessories while creating a welcoming and knowledgeable shopping experience. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys retail, athletics, swimming, or working with families and young athletes. Responsibilities Welcome customers and provide friendly, professional, and knowledgeable service. Help swimmers and families select appropriate swimwear, goggles, training equipment, apparel, and accessories. Learn the products and brands carried by Midlothian Swim Shop so you can confidently make recommendations. Assist customers with swimsuit sizing, fit, and product selection. Process purchases, returns, and exchanges accurately through our Point of Sale system. Handle cash and credit card transactions responsibly and accurately. Answer customer questions in person and by phone. Restock merchandise and keep shelves, displays, and sales areas clean, organized, and attractive. Receive, organize, price, and display incoming merchandise. Assist with inventory counts and maintaining accurate stock levels. Help prepare team apparel, equipment, and merchandise orders when needed. Assist customers with team-specific merchandise and equipment requirements. Promote additional products that appropriately meet the customer's needs. Help maintain a clean, professional, and welcoming retail environment. Work cooperatively with other Midlothian Swim Shop employees and assist with additional store responsibilities as needed. Qualifications Previous retail, customer service, or cashier experience is helpful but not required. Knowledge of competitive swimming or swim equipment is a plus, but we are happy to train the right person. Friendly, positive, and comfortable interacting with swimmers, parents, coaches, and other customers. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Dependable, responsible, and able to work independently when necessary. Comfortable learning a Point of Sale system and handling financial transactions. Basic math skills and attention to detail. Ability to organize merchandise, stock shelves, and maintain an orderly retail environment. Willingness to learn about swimwear, goggles, training equipment, apparel, and other swimming products. Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive workplace culture. Availability for some afternoon, evening, and/or weekend hours may be required.
