Retail Sales Associate (Budtender)

POSITION SUMMARY

Wavelength Biosciences, LLC, as Manager of Mountaineer Integrated Care Inc., operates the New River Cannabis dispensary. The Retail Sales Associate (Budtender) is a critical, patient-facing role and serves as a representative of the New River Cannabis brand. Budtenders are responsible for delivering a professional, compliant, and welcoming experience to registered medical cannabis patients, educating patients on products and accessories, and supporting efficient store operations. Budtenders play a key role in maintaining operational integrity, regulatory compliance, and a positive patient experience while working collaboratively with store leadership, corporate staff, vendors, and other stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Includes all Front Desk Associate duties and responsibilities.

Patient & Customer Service:

• Greet and assist patients, customers, vendors, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner in accordance with check-in and verification protocols
• Conduct patient intake procedures, where authorized
• Provide accurate product information, recommendations, and education regarding medical cannabis products and accessories
• Maintain professional phone and email etiquette
• Resolve basic customer service issues and escalate concerns to management as appropriate

Point-of-Sale & Transactions:

• Understand and properly utilize the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, including Dutchie
• Accurately add products to virtual shopping carts and comply with state-mandated purchase limits
• Accurately process cash transactions and maintain a balanced cash drawer
• Follow opening and closing procedures as assigned

Compliance & Operations:

• Adhere to all West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) rules and regulations
• Adhere to all Company policies, procedures, SOPs, and security requirements
• Assist with daily store operations and assigned tasks
• Assist with daily inventory audits and product reconciliation
• Maintain knowledge of and comply with security, safety, and confidentiality requirements, including HIPAA
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment

Additional Responsibilities:

• Assist in other store functions as assigned
• Perform other duties as assigned by management
• Safely operate company vehicles to transport goods and/or materials to designated locations
• Support delivery operations as co-driver, providing map and route assistance

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Eligibility & Legal Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) Employee Identification Card prior to employment

Experience & Skills:

• Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills
• Knowledge of cannabis products, strains, and consumption methods preferred
• Retail or customer service experience preferred
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated retail environment
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn POS systems and other software
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Team-oriented attitude with a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism

PHYSICAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
• Ability to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, and lift for extended periods
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in a retail environment with moderate noise levels and changing conditions

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks and the ability to obtain and maintain an active West Virginia Office of Medical Cannabis (OMC) Employee Identification Card, in accordance with applicable law and regulation.
