Job Description

Assistant Store Team Leader Are you passionate about customer service, sales, and growing a business? We're looking for an energetic, customer-focused Assistant Store Team Leader (Assistant Store Manager) who wants to do more than simply help run a retail store. We want someone who enjoys connecting with people, developing a team, driving sales, building relationships in the community, and working alongside the Store Team Leader to grow the business. Yes, we're a pet store and a love for pets is definitely a plus! But this position is heavily focused on customer engagement, sales, inventory management, services, community outreach, and overall business growth. What You'll Do As an Assistant Store Team Leader, you'll partner closely with the Store Team Leader to drive the success of the entire store.
Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering an exceptional customer experience and setting the standard for the rest of the team Building relationships with customers and helping them find the right products and solutions for their pets Identifying opportunities to increase sales and grow the business Coaching team members on customer engagement, product knowledge, and selling Promoting store services, including our professional dog grooming salon Helping grow grooming appointments and other service-related opportunities Managing inventory, including ordering, replenishment, counts, product availability, and inventory accuracy Ensuring the store is clean, organized, stocked, and operationally sound Supporting merchandising, promotions, seasonal changes, and product placement Monitoring store performance and identifying opportunities for improvement Assisting with hiring, training, coaching, and developing team members Helping maintain high standards for animal care and safety Building relationships with local businesses, organizations, schools, rescues, and community groups Participating in and helping organize community events and outreach opportunities Working alongside the Store Team Leader to develop ideas that bring new customers into the store and keep existing customers coming back Stepping into leadership responsibilities when the Store Team Leader is unavailable Who We're Looking For We're especially interested in someone who has customer service at the top of their mind. The right person doesn't wait behind the register for customers to ask for help. You enjoy approaching customers, starting conversations, learning what they need, recommending solutions, and creating an experience that makes them want to return. Our ideal candidate is someone who: Has strong customer service skills and genuinely enjoys working with people Has previous sales or suggestive-selling experience Understands how great service and strong selling work together Is comfortable talking with customers and building relationships Has retail, management, sales, hospitality, or other customer-facing leadership experience Is organized and operationally strong Understands the importance of inventory accuracy and product availability Takes ownership instead of waiting to be told what needs to be done Can coach, motivate, and hold a team accountable Enjoys setting goals and working toward measurable results Is willing to get involved in the local community and is excited about creating partnerships and outreach opportunities Can identify opportunities and turn ideas into action Is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and changing priorities when necessary Has a positive, professional leadership presence Wants to learn, develop, and grow with the business You Don't Have to Be a Pet Expert Pet industry experience is helpful, but it is not the most important thing we're looking for. We can teach products, systems, and processes. We're looking for someone who already understands the importance of taking care of customers, driving sales, running a strong operation, developing people, and growing a business. You should, however, be comfortable working around dogs, cats, small animals, reptiles, birds, fish, and the everyday environment of a pet retail store. This Could Be a Great Fit If... You have worked in retail, wireless sales, automotive sales/service, hospitality, restaurants, banking, fitness, beauty, grocery, or another customer-focused business and are ready to take the next step into leadership. Maybe you've been a department manager, assistant manager, sales leader, key holder, shift leader, or high-performing salesperson and you're ready for more responsibility. We're interested in what you can bring to the business , not just whether you've previously worked in a pet store. Help Us Grow We're not looking for someone who simply wants to maintain the store. We're looking for someone who wants to help grow it. You'll work directly with the Store Team Leader to identify opportunities, improve the customer experience, grow sales and services, strengthen community relationships, develop the team, and make the store a destination for local pet parents. If you're someone who sees an opportunity and thinks, "How can we make this better?" we want to meet you. Apply today and tell us what you would bring to our team!
