The Manager serves as the primary point of contact for employees and customer escalations and acts as the operational link between the Owner and the shop team. The ideal candidate combines strong retail leadership with meaningful skiing or snowboarding experience and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, technical specialty retail environment. Key Responsibilities Store Leadership and Operations Lead day-to-day store operations and maintain an organized, efficient, customer-focused shop. Open and close the store and ensure required opening, closing, register, and security procedures are completed accurately. Make day-to-day operational decisions within established company policies and escalate material issues to the Owner when appropriate. Maintain effective workflows across the sales floor, boot-fitting area, rentals, service intake, receiving, and back-of-house operations. Ensure customer calls, emails, appointments, orders, and other outstanding requests are handled promptly. Maintain high standards for store appearance, organization, cleanliness, and merchandising. Staff Management Schedule employees to maintain appropriate coverage based on expected store traffic, boot-fitting appointments, and operational workload. Monitor attendance, punctuality, and employee performance. Train employees on store operations, including POS procedures, customer service, phones, appointments, shipping, receiving, inventory systems, and other standard processes. Coordinate with experienced boot fitters and technicians to ensure employees receive appropriate technical training. Coach employees, provide feedback, resolve routine staff issues, and create a professional team environment. Communicate policies, priorities, operational changes, and Owner direction clearly to staff. Sales and Customer Experience Set the standard for knowledgeable, consultative customer service. Actively participate in sales and assist customers with ski, snowboard, apparel, accessory, and equipment purchases. Coach employees on product knowledge, customer engagement, appropriate upselling, and complete equipment solutions. Monitor store sales performance and identify opportunities to improve conversion, product mix, and customer experience. Handle customer complaints, returns, unusual requests, and other escalations professionally and consistently. Make reasonable efforts to accommodate customer needs rather than unnecessarily turning business away. Inventory, Purchasing, and Fulfillment Oversee receiving, product organization, restocking, transfers, inventory counts, and inventory accuracy. Ensure incoming products are properly received into company systems and made available for sale. Manage routine reorders and shop-supply purchases within established authority. Review inventory levels and sales trends when determining reorder needs. Ensure special orders are properly documented, paid, ordered, tracked, received, and delivered to customers. Oversee shipping and order-fulfillment processes. Systems and Financial Controls Maintain accurate use of Lightspeed POS and other company operating systems. Ensure transactions, customer notes, special orders, and operational records are entered accurately. Oversee cash handling, register reconciliation, and adherence to established financial procedures. Maintain reliable employee and appointment scheduling through the company's scheduling and booking systems. Identify recurring process problems and recommend operational improvements to the Owner. Safety and Compliance Enforce company safety procedures and ensure employees receive required training for the duties they perform. Maintain safe working areas, walkways, storage areas, tools, and equipment. Ensure only appropriately trained employees operate technical or powered equipment. Promptly report and document workplace incidents, hazards, or equipment concerns. Qualifications Minimum 3 years of retail experience in a ski, snowboard, outdoor, or comparable specialty retail environment preferred. Previous supervisory, management, or keyholder experience required. Strong skiing or snowboarding knowledge and familiarity with winter sports equipment. Demonstrated ability to lead and train employees. Strong customer-service and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize during high-volume periods. Comfortable using POS, inventory, scheduling, email, and other retail software. Reliable, accountable, detail-oriented, and able to make sound decisions independently. Available to work weekends, holidays, and peak seasonal periods as required. Physical Requirements Ability to remain standing or walking for extended periods during a retail shift. Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, and movement throughout the store. Ability to occasionally lift and move merchandise or equipment weighing approximately 30 pounds.
