October 2 Home Hub is a friendly, environmentally focused thrift store supplied by our sister company, Peace Out Junk. Everything we sell has been rescued for reuse and kept out of the landfill. We are transitioning from a for-profit thrift store to a nonprofit next month and are looking for a capable, positive, and trustworthy manager to help lead us into this next chapter. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys wearing many hats, can shift gears easily, and works well both independently and as part of a small team. You will manage daily store operations, supervise one part-time employee, work closely with the owners and Donations Manager, and help preserve the warm and welcoming atmosphere Home Hub is known for. As the nonprofit grows, the role will also include scheduling and managing volunteers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee daily store operations and support one part-time employee. Welcome customers, provide helpful service, and maintain a positive atmosphere. Handle general housekeeping and keep the sales floor, displays, inventory, and work areas neat, clean, and organized. Merchandise incoming items and create attractive, orderly displays throughout the store. Work closely with the Donations Manager to ensure a smooth transition of accepted, sorted items from the back room to thesales floor. Receive, price, and display incoming merchandise efficiently, bringing calm and order to a high volume of items. Assist the Donations Manager with back-room sorting when additional help is needed. Research and price donated, vintage, collectible, and potentially valuable items using Google Lens, ChatGPT, eBay, and other online sources. Handle estate contents and potential valuables with honesty, discretion, and sound judgment, reporting important discoveries to the owners. Prepare, package, and ship eBay orders as needed. Order supplies and help coordinate special projects. Eventually schedule, support, and supervise nonprofit volunteers.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Has retail experience; store management experience is strongly preferred. Is neat, clean, highly organized, resourceful, honest, and comfortable taking initiative. Can create an orderly process and turn a busy or chaotic flow of merchandise into a calm, attractive retail environment. Is comfortable in an active, physical role involving frequent standing, bending, and reaching, and can lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation! Can work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and adapt as store needs change. Is comfortable with computers, smartphones, online research, and e-commerce. Has good pricing instincts or is eager and able to learn. Enjoys working with the public and can lead employees and volunteers respectfully. Supports our environmental mission and brings a positive, can-do attitude.
SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION
Four days per week, generally 10:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Occasional additional time may be needed for eBay shipping and will be handled on a day-by-day basis. Competitive pay is based on relevant experience.
