The Development Services Technician I (DST I) is responsible for clerical/technical duties associated with providing routine counter/phone assistance to customers in the Development Services Department and providing support to the Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement Divisions at level I. We are looking for someone to Answer routine telephone and front-counter inquiries regarding scheduling of inspections, scheduled public hearings, and questions pertaining to zoning, building, and land use regulations Pre-screen permit applications for completeness and route to the appropriate staff for plan review and approval Perform a variety of complex clerical work such as scanning, labeling, and updating permit records Maintain files and complex filing systems in accordance with clerical procedural steps and retention requirements Qualifications we're looking for
Knowledge of:
Records management; mathematical calculations, alphabetic and numeric filing systems Specialized aspects of department/division policies, practices, and procedures Knowledge of relevant State/municipal codes and ordinances Effective customer service skills, techniques, and interpersonal communication Ability to: Communicate and interact effectively with the public and other employees both orally and in writing Enforce relevant State/municipal codes, policies and ordinances Prioritize and perform complex clerical duties and make arithmetic computations with accuracy and speed
Education, Experience & Special Requirements:
Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent, with college course work. Typical experience would include two years experience of relevant, progressively responsible clerical work as well as experience in a planning, architecture, building, or engineering office involving customer contact. Knowledge of building, planning, and land development terminology is preferred.
