Aspen, Colorado About Snowmass Sports Snowmass Sports is a locally owned ski and snowboard rental and retail company serving guests in the Aspen Snowmass area. We are seeking an experienced Ski Shop Manager to lead one of our seasonal annex locations in Aspen. This is a hands on management position. The Manager will be responsible for the day to day operation and financial performance of the location while working alongside the staff to provide rental service, retail sales, equipment fitting, and exceptional guest service. Position Overview The Ski Shop Manager is responsible for leading the location, managing employees, maintaining a premium guest experience, and maximizing rental and retail revenue while controlling costs and inventory. The ideal candidate has previous experience in the ski industry, strong leadership and communication skills, excellent customer service instincts, and an understanding of both ski rental operations and specialty retail. This position requires someone who can lead by example. The Manager will perform the same core rental, retail, and customer service responsibilities as other employees while also overseeing the operation of the location.
Management Responsibilities Staff Leadership and Scheduling:
Create and manage employee schedules based on anticipated business levels. Lead, train, motivate, and support employees while maintaining a professional and positive work environment.
Premium Guest Service:
Maintain a consistently high standard of guest service. Ensure every guest is greeted professionally, receives knowledgeable equipment recommendations, and has an efficient and enjoyable rental or shopping experience. Resolve guest concerns quickly and professionally.
Sales and Revenue Management:
Actively work to maximize rental and retail revenue through excellent service, appropriate product recommendations, upgrades, accessories, and strong sales execution.
Inventory Management:
Manage rental and retail inventory to maximize profitability and product availability. Monitor inventory levels, identify shortages and excess inventory, and coordinate transfers between Snowmass Sports locations when appropriate.
Financial and Operational Performance:
Help control payroll, inventory, discounts, operating expenses, and other controllable costs while maximizing revenue and profitability.
Daily Operations:
Oversee opening and closing procedures, POS operations, rental systems, cash handling, store organization, merchandising, equipment availability, and overall presentation of the shop.
Communication:
Maintain strong communication with Snowmass Sports ownership and management, employees, hotel personnel, vendors, and other business partners. Rental and Retail Responsibilities The Manager will also perform and oversee the same responsibilities expected of our Ski and Snowboard Rental Tech and Retail Sales Associates, including: Providing exceptional and personalized customer service Fitting guests with appropriate skis, snowboards, boots, helmets, and other rental equipment Assisting customers with retail clothing, accessories, equipment, and product selection Processing rental and retail transactions accurately Maintaining knowledge of current ski and snowboard equipment and products Keeping the shop clean, organized, stocked, and visually appealing Handling returns, exchanges, customer concerns, and rental adjustments professionally Providing knowledgeable information about Aspen Snowmass skiing, mountain conditions, and the local area Working alongside the team during busy periods rather than managing solely from an office Maintaining rental equipment and identifying equipment requiring service or repair Qualifications Previous ski industry experience is required , preferably including ski and snowboard rentals, retail, or ski shop operations. Management or supervisory experience is strongly preferred. Candidates should have strong leadership and communication skills, excellent customer service and problem solving abilities, an understanding of ski and snowboard equipment, strong organizational skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast paced hospitality environment. The position requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and peak winter periods. Compensation and Benefits This is a seasonal salaried management position from November through April .
