Fabrication Shop Supervisor / Lead Welder We are looking for one highly experienced Fabrication Shop Supervisor / Lead Welder who can take complete ownership of daily shop-floor operations across the welding, fabrication, laser cutting, and machine shop areas . This is not just a welding position. The individual will serve as the primary shop-floor lead responsible for coordinating manpower, monitoring project progress, maintaining quality and safety, and ensuring fabrication work is completed correctly and on schedule. Key Responsibilities Perform and supervise welding and fabrication activities as required. Manage day-to-day activities across the welding, fabrication, laser cutting, and machine shop areas. Review engineering drawings, weld symbols, dimensions, tolerances, BOMs, and fabrication requirements. Translate drawings and engineering requirements into clear work instructions for welders and fabricators. Assign jobs to welders and shop-floor personnel based on skill, workload, and project priority. Take ownership of fabrication projects from release to final completion. Develop and monitor daily and weekly fabrication schedules. Track project progress and provide management with regular status updates. Monitor employee working hours, productivity, overtime, and manpower utilization. Identify production delays, fabrication bottlenecks, missing materials, tooling issues, and other constraints before they affect delivery. Coordinate activities between laser cutting, machining, fit-up, welding, grinding, assembly, and inspection. Perform or support welding inspections, including visual inspection, weld size verification, workmanship checks, and drawing compliance. Ensure welders follow approved welding procedures and fabrication requirements. Verify critical dimensions and fabrication quality before parts move to the next operation. Identify workmanship or quality issues early and coordinate corrective actions. Guide and mentor welders on proper welding techniques, fit-up, distortion control, and fabrication practices. Monitor consumables, welding supplies, fixtures, tools, and fabrication equipment. Identify gaps in the fabrication process and implement improvements to increase productivity, quality, and workflow. Maintain strong housekeeping and 5S practices throughout the shop. Identify shop-floor safety hazards and implement corrective actions. Ensure proper PPE, welding safety, machine safety, material handling, lifting practices, guarding, and safe work practices are followed. Conduct daily shop-floor checks and ensure employees are working safely and efficiently. Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Project Management when technical or production issues arise. Take full responsibility for meeting project quality, schedule, and delivery commitments. Required Experience The ideal candidate should have: Strong hands-on welding and fabrication experience. Previous experience as a Lead Welder, Welding Supervisor, Fabrication Supervisor, or Shop Foreman . Excellent ability to read and interpret complex fabrication and assembly drawings. Strong understanding of weld symbols, GD&T basics, tolerances, and fabrication processes. Experience inspecting welded assemblies and identifying welding defects. Understanding of MIG, TIG, and other applicable welding processes. Experience coordinating fabrication, laser cutting, machining, welding, and assembly operations. Strong leadership and shop-floor personnel management skills. Ability to plan work, assign manpower, track schedules, and meet deadlines. Strong commitment to quality, safety, housekeeping, and continuous improvement. Ability to communicate project status, risks, delays, and resource requirements clearly to management. Ideal Candidate We need someone who thinks like an owner of the shop floor , not someone who waits for instructions. The person should be able to walk into the shop every morning, understand what projects are running, determine what needs to be completed that day, assign the right people, resolve fabrication issues, inspect the work, maintain safety, and provide management with a clear update on progress.
