Direct, support, and supervise all department functions, duties, and activities while demonstrating the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. Essential Job Functions Promote a positive work environment built on trust, respect, communication, and teamwork while providing employees with company, department, and job-specific information. Lead, support, and motivate the Bakery team to achieve department, store, sales, and service goals. Establish performance expectations and goals for the department and empower team members to meet or exceed them. Develop and maintain effective employee schedules based on customer volume and business needs. Train, coach, and develop employees on job responsibilities, company procedures, customer service, and performance expectations. Participate in the employee performance appraisal process and provide ongoing feedback and coaching. Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal laws, as well as company policies, procedures, and guidelines. Create a welcoming customer experience by assisting customers, answering questions, explaining bakery specials, and recommending products based on their needs. Maintain current knowledge of bakery products, promotions, ingredients, and product offerings. Prepare bakery items according to customer requests and company standards using appropriate bakery equipment and procedures. Offer product samples when appropriate to help customers discover new products and make informed purchasing decisions. Ensure bakery products are fresh, properly portioned, attractively presented, and available to customers while minimizing product waste and shrink. Operate and maintain bakery equipment, including refrigerators, freezers, ovens, and other department equipment, in accordance with company guidelines. Partner with production management to develop and implement department business plans that support operational, sales, and profitability goals. Prepare and submit seasonal and promotional critiques or recommendations to the appropriate management team. Stay informed of current, upcoming, seasonal, and special advertisements and communicate relevant information to department employees. Monitor department expenses and take appropriate action to control costs while maintaining quality and customer service standards. Assist store and production management with department budgets, profit and loss reviews, financial reports, and follow-up actions. Coordinate routine price changes by ensuring shelf tags, promotional signs, and other pricing information are accurate and up to date. Plan, organize, and supervise inventory activities to maintain accurate inventory levels and minimize shortages and excess product. Ensure compliance with all food safety requirements and company food safety procedures, including proper food preparation, handling, storage, and temperature control. Ensure required food, case, and cooler temperatures are properly maintained, monitored, and recorded. Reinforce workplace safety by following established safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and promptly reporting concerns to management. Conduct routine inspections of bakery equipment and report maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate personnel. Promptly report customer or employee accidents, injuries, or incidents to management. Report safety risks, security concerns, and suspected illegal activity, including theft, fraud, or other violations, in accordance with company procedures. Maintain the department in a clean, organized, and safe condition throughout all hours of operation. Perform all other duties and responsibilities assigned by management. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Position Qualifications Effective verbal and written communication skills. Basic math skills and the ability to understand and work with department-related financial and inventory information. Ability to lead, motivate, and work effectively with a diverse team. Ability to handle stressful situations and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to provide excellent customer service and resolve customer concerns professionally. Ability to obtain and maintain a valid food handler's permit as required. Desired Education and Experience High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous management or supervisory experience. Previous bakery or food service experience. Previous retail experience. Bilingual or multilingual skills, including the ability to speak, read, and/or write in a second language, are a plus.
