Mornings and weekends required Good Judys Espresso & Bagel Bar is looking for an Assistant Manager to join our leadership team! We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, takes pride in great food and coffee, and can help keep a busy café organized, welcoming, and running smoothly. The Assistant Manager works closely with the General Manager and ownership team to support day-to-day café operations while also being an active member of the floor team. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can lead by example, support their coworkers, solve problems, and help create a great experience for both our guests and our team. What You'll Do Help oversee daily café operations and keep shifts running smoothly Lead, support, and coach baristas, sandwich makers, and other team members Help train new employees and reinforce Good Judys' standards and procedures Provide friendly, attentive customer service and professionally resolve guest concerns Maintain high standards for food quality, drink quality, cleanliness, and presentation Help ensure food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements are consistently followed Assist with opening and closing procedures, including register and cash-handling responsibilities Support inventory, ordering, prep levels, and product availability Assist with scheduling and day-to-day staffing needs Communicate operational issues, employee concerns, and other important information to the General Manager Step into different café positions as needed, especially during busy periods Help identify ways to make our café more efficient, organized, and enjoyable for employees and guests Who We're Looking For Our ideal Assistant Manager is: Dependable, organized, and comfortable taking responsibility Friendly and approachable while still able to provide clear direction and expectations Comfortable working in a fast-paced café or restaurant environment A strong communicator and problem solver Able to multitask and prioritize when things get busy Comfortable coaching employees and addressing performance or workplace issues professionally Comfortable using POS systems and learning new technology Passionate about creating a welcoming workplace and excellent guest experience Available to work mornings and weekends Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a café, restaurant, or other food-and-beverage environment is preferred , but we're also interested in candidates who have demonstrated strong leadership potential and are ready to take the next step. Food Safety & Certification The Assistant Manager is expected to maintain a strong understanding of food-safety practices and help ensure those standards are consistently followed throughout the café. The successful candidate must obtain an ANSI-accredited Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification within 30 days of starting the position , unless already certified. Physical Requirements & Work Environment This is an active, hands-on position in a café and food-service environment. To perform the essential functions of the position, an Assistant Manager may be required to: Stand and/or walk for extended periods during a shift Frequently bend, reach, twist, and move throughout the café and kitchen Perform repetitive tasks and motions with the hands, wrists, and arms, including food preparation, drink preparation, cleaning, and operating café equipment Regularly handle and move food products, supplies, dishes, and equipment Occasionally lift, carry, push, or move items weighing up to 50 pounds Work in proximity to hot surfaces and equipment, including ovens, toasters, and other food-service equipment Safely handle and work around knives, slicers, and other sharp utensils or equipment Work in an environment where temperatures may vary, including areas near hot equipment and refrigerated storage Safely perform tasks in a fast-paced environment where floors may occasionally become wet or slippery Good Judys will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities to enable them to perform the essential functions of the position, as required by applicable law.
