Job Description
Role Overview We are seeking a hands-on manufacturing leader to manage daily operations across our multi-shift production facility. In this capacity, you will guide front-line supervisors and support staff to enhance accountability, streamline scheduling, and foster operational excellence throughout the shop. The ideal candidate possesses both technical machining expertise and the leadership skills necessary to mentor staff, refine processes, and build the organizational structure required for consistent output. We are looking for an ambitious, adaptable professional ready to commit to our team and business goals. Core Responsibilities Mentor and guide front-line supervisors overseeing our Metal, Glass, and R&D/Prototype manufacturing departments. Provide direct oversight and leadership for a team of approximately 20 indirect production personnel across various shifts. Ensure the team consistently meets delivery, quality, safety, and scheduling targets to drive overall production performance. Coordinate production priorities, workflow, and staffing requirements across our three-shift manufacturing cycle. Manage inventory, work orders, operational reporting, and production schedules through our ERP platform. Boost throughput and operational efficiency by identifying and resolving production bottlenecks. Foster a culture of high performance by establishing clear accountability and expectations across the shop floor. Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and operations leadership to effectively address manufacturing obstacles. Spearhead continuous improvement projects to enhance cost-effectiveness, quality, and overall productivity. Help maintain a safe, collaborative, and high-performing work environment for the entire team. Provide necessary hands-on support to ensure the team successfully achieves all production milestones. Candidate Profile You prefer leading from the shop floor rather than managing from an office. You are adept at balancing operational priorities with employee development and production needs. You are a proactive problem-solver who challenges existing norms to find better solutions. You maintain a highly organized, process-oriented approach focused on execution. You are willing to maintain a flexible schedule to support off-shift operations when necessary. You are driven to elevate performance standards, refine systems, and mentor staff. Experience Requirements At least 5 years of experience in an industrial, fabrication, or machine shop leadership role. Proven history of managing team leads, supervisors, and production operators. Experience in capacity planning, workflow management, and production scheduling. Familiarity with ERP software, with a preference for those experienced in Global Shop Solutions. A track record of delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, or productivity. Strong organizational, decision-making, and analytical problem-solving skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities shift frequently. Key Competencies Strong leadership capabilities that build trust and credibility across the entire organization. Ability to instill operational discipline and structure within production teams. Capacity to analyze complex manufacturing issues and implement sustainable, practical solutions. Comprehensive understanding of production scheduling, workflow management, and manufacturing processes. Excellent communication skills to facilitate effective cross-departmental collaboration. A high level of urgency and ownership regarding the achievement of results. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience supervising operations across multiple shifts. Proficiency in using Global Shop Solutions or comparable ERP systems. Background in metalworking, precision manufacturing, or machining environments. Experience in deploying operational best practices and process improvements. Exposure to Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other continuous improvement frameworks. Measuring Success Production Performance Within your first six months, you will be expected to stabilize production schedules, improve workflow organization, and show positive trends in key operational metrics. Process Improvement You will be responsible for creating more repeatable, structured manufacturing processes and proactive scheduling to resolve bottlenecks before they affect delivery. Team Development Success is defined by fostering a productive culture where production staff and supervisors demonstrate increased ownership, accountability, and communication. Operational Execution You will improve shop floor coordination, production planning, and ERP utilization to ensure better alignment across all shifts. Leadership Impact You will establish yourself as a trusted leader who drives results, develops talent, and champions a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement. Location and Compensation Deerfield, MI (Potential Future Relocation to Adrian, MI).
