A:
NB2A Premium Cannabis is building a relationship-first cannabis retail experience rooted in respectful service, reliable operations, and disciplined compliance. Our NB2A behaviors guide every shift: Notice the Person, Be the Owner, honor our Two Absolutes, and Assist with Positive Energy. We treat every guest with dignity and zero judgment, take responsibility for finding the right solution, and never compromise on compliance or respect. Because we serve in a highly regulated environment, accuracy, confidentiality, and knowing when to pause and escalate matter just as much as product knowledge. At every step, we bring warm, calm, helpful energy while maintaining professionalism.
The Opportunity:
The Shift Leader is NB2A's first fully certified store-leadership layer. This role runs assigned shifts, keeps the team aligned, resolves routine guest and operating issues, protects cash and inventory controls, and produces a clear handoff for the next leader. Shift Leaders model excellent Budtender performance, own an assigned AOR, and coach early drift before it becomes risk.
What You Will Own:
Open and close the store only after completing required certification for keys, alarms, cash, security, product, systems, and checklists. Lead pre-shift huddles, assign positions and priorities, coordinate breaks, monitor traffic, and keep the sales floor clean, stocked, secure, and guest-ready. Support correct check-in, registry card and photo-identification verification, guest profiles, purchase-limit controls, and authorized access before sales proceed. Resolve routine guest concerns with calm, factual service; gather facts and complete approved returns, refunds, voids, or discount actions only within training and permission. Close drawers, perform approved cash drops, document variances, support deposits, and escalate unexplained cash issues immediately. Lead or support approved inventory counts, replenishment, receiving, product movement, discrepancy research, and adjustments within assigned permissions and AOR scope. Own an assigned AOR, maintain required proof, submit the weekly update, communicate barriers, and participate in competency checks and handoffs. Give respectful task and process coaching, recognize strong performance, and document repeated, serious, compliance, attendance, or guest-experience concerns. Complete incident, guest issue, cash, inventory, outage, and shift-handoff records accurately and before leaving the shift when practicable. Escalate invalid documents, hostile behavior, suspected theft, significant loss, security or camera issues, medical emergencies, system outages, and any uncertain compliance decision.
Decision Rights and Boundaries:
May run the shift and use elevated store permissions only after certification and only for the approved task set. May recommend schedule changes, purchasing needs, and process improvements, but may not independently hire, terminate, change compensation, approve pricing or vendor orders, or interpret regulation. May not perform Metrc or inventory adjustments, receiving acceptance, catalog edits, or special administrative actions unless specifically trained and authorized.
What Success Looks Like:
Safe, organized openings and closings with clear, useful shift handoffs. Professional guest escalations, accurate transactions, and consistent compliance reminders. Controlled cash and inventory, prompt variance follow-up, and complete incident documentation. On-time AOR updates with retained proof and honest Green, Yellow, or Red status. Respectful coaching, reliable attendance, and strong team execution during busy or changing conditions. What You Bring (Required): At least 21 years of age and able to satisfy all Minnesota cannabis employment requirements. Demonstrated proficiency in Budtender-level guest service, check-in, product education, point-of-sale, cash, fulfillment, and compliance behaviors, or the ability to complete that pathway before independent shift leadership. At least one year of customer-facing retail, hospitality, restaurant, or service experience; equivalent experience will be considered. Calm judgment, accuracy, professional communication, and willingness to document and escalate concerns. Ability to direct peers respectfully, follow checklists, learn systems, and maintain confidential information. Availability to work a varied retail schedule, including at least some openings, closings, weekends, and holidays. Preferred Prior keyholder, shift-lead, trainer, or cash-office experience. Experience in cannabis, pharmacy, specialty retail, or another regulated setting. Schedule and Work Environment This is an on-site retail role in a secure, camera-monitored cannabis dispensary. The position requires regular interaction with guests, coworkers, cash, technology, product, and controlled-access areas. Scheduling is based on business need and may include opening, closing, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. With or without reasonable accommodation, perform essential tasks that may include prolonged standing or walking, frequent communication, computer and point-of-sale use, bending and reaching, and occasionally moving merchandise or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds. If the assigned job includes driving, maintain a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and any required insurance or company authorization. Conditions of Employment Must be at least 21 years of age. Employment is contingent on completion of the criminal-history background check required before work begins and confirmation that no disqualifying felony offense bars employment under Minnesota law. Must complete all required role, cardholder-interaction, identification, purchase-limit, inventory, security, safety, and system training before performing controlled tasks independently. Must wear required identification, protect confidential information, use only assigned credentials, and follow all state, local, license, company, and store procedures. Must comply with company workplace-safety, substance-use, and fitness-for-duty policies, including no consumption on establishment property and no working while impaired. Equal Opportunity and Accommodations. NB2A Premium Cannabis is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law. Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified applicants and employees.
