Marine Parts Department Supervisor Blue Lagoon Marine Inc Spring Park, MN Full-time Non-Exempt Reports to the General Manager Blue Lagoon Marine is seeking a highly organized, detail‑oriented Parts Department Supervisor to oversee our marine parts operations. This role is responsible for ordering and receiving parts, maintaining accurate inventory, and selling marine parts to both internal (service technicians) and external (walk‑in/retail/commercial) customers. The ideal candidate is a self‑starter with strong customer service skills and the ability to quickly learn and use vendor and inventory software programs. Key Responsibilities Parts Ordering & Purchasing
- Source, order, and purchase marine parts, accessories, and supplies from approved vendors and manufacturers.
- Compare pricing, availability, and quality among vendors to ensure cost‑effective purchasing.
- Track open purchase orders and follow up on backorders, delays, and discrepancies. Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory counts of all marine parts and accessories using company systems and vendor software.
- Perform regular cycle counts and assist with periodic full physical inventories.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder points to minimize stock‑outs and overstock.
- Properly label, store, and organize parts to ensure quick identification and retrieval.
- Identify and manage obsolete, slow‑moving, and warranty/return merchandise in coordination with management. Sales & Customer Service
- Assist customers (retail and commercial) and internal staff in identifying and locating correct parts for various boats, engines, and marine systems.
- Provide prompt, professional, and courteous service in person, over the phone, and by email.
- Prepare and process quotes, sales orders, and invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
- Upsell related items and accessories where appropriate to enhance customer satisfaction and sales.
- Resolve customer issues related to parts orders, returns, and exchanges in accordance with company policies. Systems & Software Use
- Use dealer/vendor portals, electronic parts catalogs (EPCs), and related software to identify, price, and order parts.
- Use point‑of‑sale (POS) and/or inventory management systems to process transactions and update stock records.
- Maintain accurate data entry and documentation in all systems, including part numbers, descriptions, pricing, and locations. Department Supervision & Coordination
- Oversee daily operations of the parts department, ensuring smooth workflow and timely support for service technicians and customers.
- Coordinate closely with the service department to ensure correct parts are available for scheduled work orders.
- Help establish and maintain standard operating procedures for the parts department.
- Train and guide any parts department staff or assistants on procedures, systems, and customer service standards. Compliance & Safety
- Follow company policies and procedures relating to cash handling, documentation, and record‑keeping.
- Adhere to safety protocols for handling, storing, and disposing of parts, including hazardous materials where applicable.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe parts department and storage areas. Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or business coursework a plus.
- Prior experience in a parts department, inventory management, marine industry, automotive, or similar environment.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in ordering, data entry, and record‑keeping.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as a self‑starter with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with computers and the ability to quickly learn new software, including vendor portals, electronic parts catalogs, POS, and inventory systems.
- Basic math skills for pricing, discounts, and inventory counts.
- Ability to lift and move boxes/parts as needed (up to 50lbs) and work in a warehouse/parts storage environment. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the marine industry, with knowledge of boats, engines, and marine systems.
- Familiarity with common marine parts vendors and OEMs.
- Prior supervisory or lead experience in a retail, service, or parts environment. Work Schedule & Compensation
Schedule:
Full‑time, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends or extended hours during peak seasons.Compensation:
Hourly $25- 35/hour
