Job Description

POSITION INFORMATION
Manages employees and operations of the Sales Department insuring every step in the Gold Star Harley-Davidson / Outdoors sales process and customer tracking/follow-up system (TMS) is being followed. Maintain the highest level of profitability possible while insuring the highest level of business integrity and customer service.
KEY RESULT AREAS
  • Motorcycle and Outdoor Sales forecast and goals are met
  • Every step in the Sales Department Process is being completed
  • Customer Relations are at highest level with any negative surveys being follow up timely
  • Traffic Management Systems (TMS) is constantly monitored and sales team directed as required
  • Communication with F&I is timely and consistently
  • Insure that each customer is greeted and logged throughout the day
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Oversee and manage all operations of new and pre-owned unit sales. 2) Ensure sales department contributes acceptable levels of gross and net profit. 3) Insure that every step in the Gold Star sales process including but not limited to full utilization of the TLS System. 4) Ensure sales personnel are well trained, motivated, and available when needed. 5) Determine sales quota's for sales personnel in accordance to their skill levels. 6) Oversee sales, trade-ins, and delivery of all new and used units. 7) Maintain a sales history and/or vehicle history log book or electronic method of tracking. 8) Establish realistic forecasts for each sales person and overall department. 9) Initiate and maintain an inventory control system along with net profit objectives which eliminate the possibility of "lower than anticipated" profits. 10) Maintain a balanced new unit inventory in proportion to sales. 11) Establish procedures to ensure timely and proper completion of all paperwork. 12) Maintain showroom with a variety of units set-up with different accessories and paint schemes, displayed in a well lighted environment which draws customers. 13) Maintain clean efficient showrooms. 14) Ensure that the features of all products to customers are being presented by sales associates along with their benefits. 15) Ensure that each customer is being presented advantages of products over competing brands. 16) Ensure that Cross selling additional parts, accessories, HOG memberships, F&I products, Warranties & service contracts etc. with all new and used units is taking place. 17) Follow procedures to ensure timely and proper completion of all paperwork. 18) Ensure that all new customers are introduced to the service, parts, general merchandise and F&I departments and their personnel as required. 19) Ensure the Sales Associates are following the
C.U.S.T.O.M.
sales process. 20) Ensure that each customer is greeted immediately, in a courteous and friendly manner. 21) Ensure that telephone transactions are handled quickly, and courteously. 22) Ensure customers are properly qualified for needs, wants, and ability to buy. 23) Ensure the Sales Associates are practicing a feature / benefit selling methodology so that all customers receive consistent treatment when doing business. 24) Follow the Gold Star methodology for vehicle sales, trade-ins and purchases. 25) Conduct a road test, and pre-delivery inspection prior to delivery to customer when required. 26) Ensure the delivery to customer is an "EVENT" which endears the customer to the dealership. 27) Ensure that the Sales Associates are contacting customers using mailing lists, tickler files, TMS System and personal follow-up to encourage additional sales and ensure customer satisfaction. 28) Handle customer complaints reasonably, showing empathy and a positive attitude, and demonstrate our commitment to "Make Things Right". 29) Attend training sessions to keep current with sales techniques and sales department issues. 30) Complete all Daily DOCs and other required reports on time. 31) Cultivate prospects (e.g., showroom customer follow-up, phone-in inquiries, past owners, etc.). 32) Maintain budgeted revenue and expense objectives. 33) Develop promotional campaigns in conjunction with the parts and service departments. 34) Develop monthly and annual objectives for the department in collaboration with
GM. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Establish departmental work schedule, balancing the work load of all employees.
  • Train Sales Representatives to use consistent and current Gold Star Sales methodologies.
  • Set policies and procedures for sales department.
  • Manage employee performance (evaluate and council) and conduct performance reviews in a timely manner.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and terminating employees.
  • Forward records of all employee performance reviews, disciplinary actions, job promotions, pay adjustments and letters of recommendation to appropriate personnel for placement in personnel files.
  • Provide training for all sales employees (seminars; workshops; sales schools, etc.
).

  • Continually learn more about the products and services you sell.
Stay current on motorcycle trends and selling features.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • A current motorcycle endorsement or the ability to acquire one.
  • The ability to learn the Gold Star selling process quickly and implement as required is a must.
  • Must have the ability to get along with a broad customer base.
  • High energy level.
  • Excellence communication skills and demonstrated "closing skills".
  • Knowledge and experience with sales of Harley-Davidson/Buell motorcycles, and other products sold by the dealership, or the demonstrated ability to quickly learn them.
  • Strong ability to work well with others is a must.
  • Must be able to work effectively with all areas of the dealership to maximize both the buying experience for the customer and the profitability of the dealership.
  • Strong phone skills are a must.
