Job Overview We are seeking an enthusiastic, mission-driven, structured, Thrift Store Assistant Manager to help lead our Hope Chest Thrift Store with energy, purpose, and a heart for service. As Thrift Store Assistant Manager, you will oversee all aspects of store operations—from donation intake and merchandising to staff leadership and customer engagement—while cultivating a welcoming, values-based shopping experience. Your leadership will play a key role in driving sales that directly support our organization's mission. Responsibilities Lead, motivate, and supervise thrift store staff and volunteers, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management to foster a positive, enthusiastic team culture Oversee all thrift-specific inventory functions, including donation intake, sorting, processing, pricing, stocking, rotating merchandise, and inventory control to maximize sales and floor appeal Manage daily store operations, including cashiering, cash handling, POS system oversight, opening and closing procedures, and maintaining an organized, clean, and safe retail environment Implement visual merchandising strategies tailored to a thrift retail setting to highlight inventory, seasonal items, and high-value goods Develop and support marketing and promotional efforts to increase foot traffic, strengthen community engagement, and encourage repeat shoppers and donors Deliver exceptional customer service by creating a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, addressing questions or concerns, and ensuring positive donor and shopper experiences Monitor sales performance, thrift store metrics, and retail math to meet or exceed revenue goals while managing budgets and expenses responsibly Ensure compliance with safety standards, store policies, and operational procedures while supervising day-to-day shift operations Skills & Qualifications Strong leadership skills with experience supervising staff in retail, thrift, or resale environments Passion for mission-based work and a genuine desire to contribute to a cause-driven organization Excellent communication skills with the ability to train, motivate, and support staff while engaging positively with customers and donors Proficiency with POS systems, inventory management, basic bookkeeping, and retail math Experience with thrift-specific pricing strategies, merchandising, and donation-based inventory flow Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask in a dynamic retail environment Demonstrated enthusiasm, adaptability, and a hands-on approach to leadership Why Join Us?
