Job Description

Job Overview Chichester Market is looking for a dependable, experienced, and hands-on Assistant Store Manager to help oversee the day-to-day operation of our grocery store, butcher market, deli, and prepared foods operation. We are looking for someone who is comfortable taking responsibility, working with employees, helping customers, and jumping in wherever needed. This is a hands-on position and would be a good fit for someone with previous grocery, retail, food service, or management experience who is looking to take on a leadership role. Responsibilities Assist with the daily operation of the store Help manage, train, and support employees Assist with employee scheduling and shift coverage Help oversee ordering, receiving, and inventory management Monitor inventory levels and help prevent overstock, shortages, and product waste Check deliveries and verify products and quantities received Help maintain product displays, pricing, stocking, and merchandising Provide excellent customer service and help resolve customer concerns Assist with opening and closing procedures Help oversee cash registers and proper cash-handling procedures Ensure employees are completing assigned duties and following store policies Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe store Have a basic understanding of food handling, sanitation, and prepared food operations Help monitor product quality, freshness, rotation, and expiration dates Work with management to identify ways to improve efficiency, sales, and customer experience Be willing to step into different areas of the store as needed Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Previous grocery, retail, food service, or similar experience preferred Previous supervisory or management experience strongly preferred Experience with ordering and inventory management is a plus Comfortable supervising and training employees Strong communication and customer service skills Dependable, organized, and able to work independently Able to make decisions and solve problems when management is not immediately available Basic computer and point-of-sale system experience Knowledge of deli, kitchen, or prepared foods is a plus Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and helping wherever needed Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position.
Applicants must be able to:
Stand and walk for extended periods Bend, reach, stock shelves, and perform general store duties Regularly lift and carry boxes and products Lift approximately 40-50 pounds when needed Work in refrigerated and freezer areas as necessary Schedule This position may be full-time or part-time , depending on the applicant and availability. A flexible schedule is preferred, including the ability to work some mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The right person will be dependable, approachable with employees and customers, organized, and comfortable taking charge when necessary. Chichester Market is a growing local business, and this position has the opportunity to take on additional responsibility as the store grows.
Pay:
$23.00 - $26.00 per hour
