Job Description

Position Summary The Showroom Manager runs the retail and design showroom at 48 Portsmouth Ave. This is the first impression the business makes on most clients, and this role owns it end to end — how the space looks, how customers are greeted and guided, and whether a walk-in leaves with the right product or the right next appointment. This is not a cashier position. We are looking for someone with real experience in paint, design, or building products retail who can sit down with a homeowner, understand what they are trying to accomplish, and either close the sale themselves or set it up cleanly for the design team. Opportunity for on site work visiting projects as well. You will work closely with the Head of Design and the paint department, but you report directly to the Owner and you run the floor. What You Will Own The Showroom Floor Open, close, and maintain the showroom so it is presentable and shoppable every day Greet and qualify every walk-in — identify whether they are a paint customer, a product customer, or a design lead Keep displays, sample boards, wallpaper books, tile and flooring samples, and cabinet door samples current, clean, and organized Manage sample check-out and return so we stop losing books and boards Keep the showroom stocked with current literature, price sheets, and selection forms Help customers find the perfect paint color Selling and Selection Support Close straightforward showroom sales directly — wallpaper, in-stock tile, flooring, paint sundries, and product orders Guide customers through color and product selection using our lines Recognize when a customer needs full design involvement and hand the lead to the Head of Design with a complete, written summary of what they want Book in-store design meetings and paid in-home color consultations through Calendly Complete selection forms and showroom intake forms accurately so orders do not come back wrong Orders, Vendors, and Follow-Through Place special orders with vendors and track them from order to arrival to customer pickup Follow up with customers on quotes, samples, and pending selections — this is where most showroom revenue is lost Maintain accurate pricing and product information in the point-of-sale and on the Shopify store Build and maintain working relationships with vendor reps, and schedule product training as new lines come in Coordination Hand off design-qualified leads to the Head of Design and confirm the handoff was received Coordinate with the paint department so color, product, and quantity are consistent between the counter and the design side Flag inventory gaps, display problems, and recurring customer complaints to the Owner What We Are Looking For Experience in paint, interior design, flooring, tile, or building products retail — someone who has run a floor before, not someone learning one Comfortable selling without being pushy; able to ask good questions and read what a customer actually needs Working knowledge of color, sheen, product application, and interior finishes — or a strong enough background to get there fast Organized and reliable with follow-up; a customer who is told they will get a call gets the call Comfortable with computers — point-of-sale, email, Calendly, Shopify, and basic order tracking Presents well and stays composed when the showroom is busy and the phone is ringing Helpful, Not Required Prior experience with a paint tinting system or a design showroom Familiarity with wallpaper, flooring, cabinets, tile Merchandising or display experience Existing relationships with local designers, builders, or realtors
