We are seeking a full-time Assistant Store Manager / Key Holder to help oversee the day-to-day operation of our brick-and-mortar retail store. This is a hands-on, customer-facing leadership position for someone who is comfortable taking responsibility for the sales floor, supporting staff, working directly with customers, and making sound decisions when senior management is not available. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of musical instruments and gear, is confident assessing and valuing used equipment, communicates well with customers and coworkers, and can help keep a busy retail environment organized and running smoothly. Retail experience is a plus, but strong product knowledge, judgment, communication skills, and the ability to work well with people are equally important. Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales Provide knowledgeable, friendly, professional customer service in person and over the phone. Assist customers with product selection, questions, purchases, trades, and other needs. Help resolve customer concerns and make appropriate decisions when management is not immediately available. Maintain a welcoming, helpful, low-pressure sales environment. Support sales staff during busy periods and step in wherever needed. Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding pricing, product availability, policies, special circumstances, and expectations. Floor Leadership Act as a key holder and help open and/or close the store as scheduled. Take responsibility for the retail floor when senior management is unavailable. Provide direction and support to sales staff throughout the day. Help maintain appropriate staff coverage and ensure customers are being assisted. Reinforce store policies, procedures, pricing guidelines, and customer service standards. Identify problems and address them appropriately rather than waiting for someone else to take responsibility. Communicate important issues, customer situations, and operational concerns to management. Store Operations Assist with daily opening and closing procedures. Help maintain a clean, organized, well-merchandised sales floor. Monitor displays and inventory to ensure products are properly represented and accessible to customers. Assist with incoming inventory, transfers, customer pickups, and other day-to-day retail operations as needed. Follow company procedures related to cash handling, transactions, discounts, returns, trades, and used inventory. Help protect company inventory and assets and identify potential loss-prevention concerns. Musical Gear & Product Knowledge Confidently identify and assess guitars, amplifiers, effects, and other musical equipment. Evaluate the condition, desirability, and approximate market value of used gear. Assist with customer trades and purchases of used equipment according to company guidelines. Recognize when an item or situation requires additional evaluation or approval. Stay informed about products, brands, pricing, and trends within the musical instrument industry. Qualifications Strong knowledge of musical instruments and related gear. Comfortable evaluating and discussing the value of used musical equipment. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong phone and verbal communication skills. Comfortable working with a wide variety of personalities and customer situations. Good judgment and the ability to make decisions independently within established guidelines. Dependable, organized, and able to follow through on responsibilities. Comfortable providing direction to coworkers and taking ownership of the sales floor. Able to remain professional and level-headed during busy or difficult situations. Retail or musical instrument sales experience is a plus. Previous supervisory, key holder, or management experience is a plus. Schedule Requirements and Compensation The position is based on a minimum of 35 hours per week with overtime available upon approval from the General Manager. Weekend shifts are required and flexibility is important. Starting pay will be between $20-$26 for the right individual.
