This position leads from the floor, supports the sales team in closing deals, ensures every opportunity is properly worked, and holds the team accountable to dealership processes and performance standards. The Sales Manager is expected to be actively involved in every stage of the sales process—from appointments and customer engagement through desking, negotiation, delivery, and follow-up. Key Responsibilities Lead, coach, train, and hold Sales Professionals accountable to dealership expectations. Drive new and used vehicle sales volume while protecting front-end and total gross profit. Be actively involved in every deal and ensure proper manager involvement throughout the sales process. Desk deals accurately and structure transactions that maximize profitability while meeting customer needs. Assist Sales Professionals with negotiations and personally step in to close customers when necessary. Review CRM activity daily, including leads, follow-up, appointments, overdue tasks, and customer contacts. Drive appointment generation, confirmation, show rates, and closing percentages. Conduct daily sales meetings, training, and performance coaching. Ensure every customer receives a consistent, professional sales experience. Maintain strong communication between Sales, Finance, BDC, Service, and Inventory departments. Monitor inventory levels, aging, pricing, merchandising, and turn. Identify aged inventory and execute plans to move units before they become a profitability problem. Ensure accurate deal documentation and compliance with dealership and manufacturer requirements. Support Finance penetration by properly setting up products and value during the sales process. Monitor CSI and address customer concerns quickly. Review daily, weekly, and monthly performance against dealership objectives. Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing Sales Professionals. Maintain a visible leadership presence on the showroom floor. Performance Expectations Success in this position will be measured by: New and used vehicle sales volume Front-end and total gross profit PVR Appointment generation and show rate Lead response and CRM execution Closing percentage Inventory aging and turn Finance/product performance CSI OEM objectives Sales Professional productivity and development Compliance with dealership processes Leadership Expectations The Sales Manager is expected to lead by example. This is not a position managed from behind a desk. Managers are expected to engage customers, work deals, coach their people, solve problems, and create urgency throughout the department. Managers must hold themselves and their team accountable for doing what they say they are going to do. They should recognize strong effort and performance while addressing missed expectations quickly and directly. Qualifications Automotive retail sales experience required. Previous automotive management experience strongly preferred. Strong desking, negotiation, and closing skills. Working knowledge of CRM and dealership management systems. Strong understanding of vehicle inventory, gross profit, financing, and dealership operations. Ability to coach, motivate, and hold a sales team accountable. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Schedule & Availability This is a leadership position in a retail automotive environment. The Sales Manager must be available based on the needs of the business, including evenings, weekends, month-end, special sales events, and other high-volume periods. Overall Objective Build and lead a disciplined, customer-focused sales team that consistently achieves dealership objectives for volume, gross profit, CSI, inventory management, and long-term customer retention.
