Grocery Manager High Falls Food Co-op | High Falls, NY Full-Time | Non-Exempt Help Lead the Heart of Our Store Are you passionate about great food, creative merchandising, strong teams, and supporting a locally owned business? High Falls Food Co-op is looking for an energetic, organized, and hands-on Center Store Manager to lead our grocery, bulk, bread, frozen, refrigerated, meat, and cheese departments. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced retail professional who enjoys having a real impact. You'll help shape our product selection, build relationships with vendors, create inviting displays, develop a knowledgeable team, and ensure our shelves are stocked with products our community loves. This is not a desk-only management position. Our Center Store Manager works alongside the team, stays connected to daily store operations, and leads by example.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Department Leadership Lead the day-to-day operations of our center store departments Set priorities and coordinate stocking, ordering, merchandising, and department maintenance Keep shelves, displays, aisles, coolers, and storage areas clean, organized, fully stocked, and inviting Monitor sales, margins, inventory, labor, and shrink to help the department meet its goals Review sales reports and identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement Participate in inventory counts and help ensure accurate department records Purchasing and Vendor Relations Build positive working relationships with suppliers Negotiate favorable pricing, terms, product quality, and delivery arrangements Evaluate current suppliers and explore new products and sources Manage the department's product mix and inventory levels based on customer demand, sales, and margin goals Coordinate returns, credits, promotional opportunities, product demonstrations, and vendor specials Review invoices for accuracy and submit them for processing Merchandising and Product Selection Create clean, attractive, and well-stocked displays Maintain accurate product pricing and shelf labels Plan promotions and make thoughtful product recommendations Set prices and markdowns while balancing customer value, department margins, and waste reduction Stay current on food trends, new products, industry news, and relevant legislation Share helpful product information with customers and coworkers Team Leadership Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and support department employees Provide hands-on training and clear written expectations Coach employees and conduct timely performance evaluations Build a collaborative, respectful, and accountable department culture Make sure team members understand and follow store procedures, food-safety standards, and department expectations Work closely with other managers to support smooth storewide operations Storewide Leadership Participate in management meetings, promotional planning, department goal setting, and store improvement projects Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and professional service to customers, members, vendors, and coworkers Serve as Manager on Duty and assist with cashiering when needed Support store safety, security, and emergency procedures Promote the values of cooperation and help customers understand what makes a member-owned food co-op special
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Our ideal candidate is a dependable, approachable leader who can balance people, products, and numbers. You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should be curious, comfortable taking initiative, and excited to learn.
Qualifications include:
Previous retail experience Purchasing or buying experience Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities Clear and professional verbal and written communication Experience training, supervising, or supporting employees Confidence working with sales, pricing, inventory, margins, and shrink General computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office The ability to follow through on commitments and work independently A team-oriented, solutions-focused approach The ability to lift 50 pounds or more Familiarity with natural and organic foods is preferred but not required Knowledge of co-ops or member-owned organizations is helpful but not required
