Job Description

Boutique Assistant Manager Bella & Lindy Pet Boutique is looking for a dependable, sales-driven Part-Time Boutique Assistant Manager to join our team. We are an established, locally owned pet boutique in downtown Saratoga Springs, serving the community since 2014 and recognized by PETS+ as one of America's Coolest Pet Stores. This is a hands on leadership role for someone who enjoys working directly with customers while also helping manage the day-to-day operations of a small retail store. The Assistant Manager will work closely with the owner and serve as a key point person for the team when the owner is not in the store. We are looking for someone who is organized, proactive, comfortable with sales goals and retail KPIs, and confident taking ownership of store operations and staff coordination.
Responsibilities:
Sales & Customer Experience Provide friendly, knowledgeable, personalized customer service Actively drive sales through product knowledge, recommendations, add-on selling, and customer engagement Lead by example on the sales floor and help motivate the team to achieve store sales goals Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance Run and review sales reports Understand and monitor retail KPIs, including sales vs. goal, Average Unit Retail (AUR), average transaction value, units per transaction, and other available performance metrics Identify sales trends and opportunities for improvement Suggest strategies to improve sales, merchandising, promotions, and the overall customer experience Handle customer questions, returns, exchanges, and more complex customer situations professionally Staff Leadership & Scheduling Act as Manager on Duty when the owner is not present Provide direction, coaching, and support to sales associates Assist with onboarding and training new employees Help reinforce store procedures, customer service standards, and sales expectations Assist with creating and maintaining employee schedules Serve as a primary point of contact for employee availability, time-off requests, call-outs, shift changes, and scheduling questions Help coordinate shift coverage and resolve scheduling conflicts Communicate schedule changes and staffing concerns to the owner Assist with timecard and payroll-related administrative tasks as responsibilities expand Inventory & Merchandising Monitor inventory levels and identify products that need to be reordered or restocked Receive, unpack, price, and merchandise incoming inventory Maintain organized back-stock and appropriate sales-floor inventory levels Assist with inventory counts and inventory accuracy Review product performance and identify strong sellers and slower-moving merchandise Maintain visually appealing displays and merchandising standards Help execute seasonal merchandising changes, promotions, product launches, and featured displays Suggest merchandising changes that may help improve sales Store Operations Independently open and close the store Oversee day-to-day store operations during assigned shifts Ensure opening, closing, cash-handling, and store procedures are followed Maintain a clean, organized, and well-presented sales floor and stock area Take initiative and address day-to-day operational issues without requiring constant direction Communicate important staffing, inventory, sales, or operational concerns to the owner Assist with in-store promotions, special events, holiday initiatives, and community partnerships Support occasional marketing or social media initiatives as needed Schedule Approximately 20-26 hours per week Regular weekday availability required, with a strong preference for availability on multiple weekdays. Friday availability is highly preferred. Rotating weekend availability required, typically one weekend shift every week Set availability is welcome as long as it meets the needs of the position Schedule may vary slightly based on business needs, employee coverage, holidays, special events, and peak seasons This is a year-round position Additional hours may be available during ho Additional hours may be available during holidays, Saratoga Racing Season, and other peak periods Qualifications Previous retail, sales, or customer service experience required Previous keyholder, supervisor, lead, or management experience strongly preferred Strong sales ability and comfort working toward measurable goals Familiarity with retail KPIs and sales reporting preferred Comfortable reviewing numbers and identifying opportunities to improve performance Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Comfortable coordinating schedules and communicating with employees Dependable and able to work independently Confident making decisions when the owner is not present Ability to coach and motivate other team members Takes initiative and notices what needs to be done Strong attention to detail and visual merchandising Comfortable learning POS, scheduling, payroll, and reporting systems Genuine interest in pets and pet products is a plus Compensation & Growth Starting pay: $19.00 per hour Formal performance review after approximately 90 days Opportunity to increase to $20.00 per hour based on demonstrated sales performance, leadership, reliability, and ability to take ownership of Assistant Manager responsibilities Additional performance reviews and opportunities for increased responsibility and compensation as the role develops Employee discount How to
