JOB SUMMARY
Direct and manage all functions and activities of the Produce Department to achieve sales and profit goals.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Along with the department supervisor and Store Director, follow localized merchandising plan for the produce, floral and cut fruit/vegetable department. Follow approved Produce Department Plans for effective space management based on movement, season, consumer demand, and profitability. Order merchandise and control inventory to minimize out-of-stocks and overstocks and to maximize sales. Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking and restocking cases to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation. Control department expenses by having an organized supply storage area. Take action to control shrinkage and pilferage losses by utilizing movement and shrink reports. Effectively train, schedule and supervise other produce department personnel. Follow planned program for cleaning and preventative maintenance on cases, backroom coolers, and refrigeration equipment. Establish culture and a favorable department image with customers through a clean, attractive and friendly atmosphere. Follow and enforce all company policies and procedures. Maintain and submit required records and reports. Observe local conditions and competitive activity relating to the produce and floral department and keep others informed. Maintain good communications in the store, the produce department and throughout the organization. Ensure compliance to company's Sanitation, Safety and Security Program. Ensure compliance to local, state and government weights and measures laws, and health department regulations. Greet all customers and be observant while on the sales floor. Monitor products for quality, count and freshness. Manage and oversee the floral area of the department. Prepare a weekly schedule based on projected sales volume and workload. Maintain a neat personal appearance according to the company's dress code policy. Promote all programs to ensure a safe and accident-free environment.
SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High school education is a minimum requirement. Ability to read and write to properly tag merchandise, order and maintain inventory and to insure proper rotation of product. Above average analytical skills are necessary to study and interpret various reports to keep the department profitable. Should have at least two years' experience as a produce clerk. Must have excellent oral and written communications kills for dealing with customers, employees and vendors. Must have dexterity in hands to enable trimming and packaging of produce. Ability to unload, transport, and place merchandise in their specific areas. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50 pounds up to fifty percent (50%) of the time. Must be able to stand upright for most of your scheduled work shift.
