Sno-Isle Food Co-op is seeking a passionate and experienced Produce Manager to lead our Produce Department. This position plays a key leadership role in providing an exceptional shopping experience through high-quality products, outstanding merchandising, strong vendor relationships, and excellent customer service. As Produce Manager, you will oversee all daily operations of the department, including staff supervision, ordering, inventory management, merchandising, food safety, and financial performance. What You'll Do Lead and develop a high-performing Produce Department team. Maintain attractive, abundant, and fresh produce displays. Manage purchasing, inventory, shrink, and margins. Produce Clerks and Produce Leads Position Summary The Produce Manager is responsible for the overall operation, profitability, and leadership of the Produce Department. This position ensures the department provides fresh, high-quality products while achieving sales, margin, labor, and shrink goals. The Produce Manager develops staff, maintains exceptional merchandising standards, fosters supplier relationships, and supports Sno-Isle Food Co-op's mission of serving the community through healthy, sustainable food. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Department Leadership Recruit, train, supervise, coach, and evaluate Produce Department employees. Create schedules that meet operational needs while maintaining labor budgets. Foster a positive, respectful, and collaborative team culture. Ensure staff receive ongoing training regarding product knowledge, customer service, and food safety. Purchasing and Inventory Management Order produce and department supplies. Maintain appropriate inventory levels and product variety. Develop and maintain relationships with local and regional vendors. Monitor department margins, sales, shrink, and inventory turns. Analyze department performance and implement improvements. Merchandising and Product Quality Create attractive, abundant, and well-stocked displays. Ensure proper rotation and freshness of all products. Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, and presentation. Promote seasonal, local, and cooperative products whenever possible. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum three years of produce retail experience. Minimum one year of supervisory or leadership experience. Knowledge of produce quality standards, seasonality, and merchandising techniques. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with inventory and POS systems. Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and work independently. Preferred Qualifications Experience in a food cooperative, natural foods retailer, or independent grocery environment. Experience working with local farmers and distributors. Food Handler and food safety certifications. Knowledge of organic produce standards and sustainable agriculture practices. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
