Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Produce Manager to oversee all operations within our Produce Department. The Produce Manager is responsible for leading department staff, driving sales and profitability, ensuring product quality and freshness, maintaining inventory levels, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, knowledge of produce operations, and a commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-stocked department. Key Responsibilities Lead, supervise, and support Produce Department team members to achieve departmental sales and profit goals. Monitor employee attendance, punctuality, and compliance with company policies and procedures. Recruit, train, coach, evaluate, and develop new and existing employees. Order produce merchandise and supplies to maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing shrink and out-of-stock conditions. Oversee receiving operations to ensure accurate counts, billing, product quality, pricing, and compliance with store receiving procedures. Maintain product freshness through proper rotation, handling, and merchandising practices. Ensure refrigerated cases, wet racks, and display areas are fully stocked, properly faced, and visually appealing. Verify that all product pricing, signage, and Point-of-Sale (POS) information are accurate and up to date. Monitor inventory levels, product movement, and consumer demand to maximize sales and profitability. Work closely with vendor representatives and provide recommendations to store management. Handle damaged, spoiled, and unsaleable merchandise while controlling department shrink. Maintain high standards of sanitation, housekeeping, food safety, and regulatory compliance. Ensure prompt response to safety concerns, spills, broken containers, and other potential hazards. Deliver outstanding customer service by assisting customers and resolving concerns in a professional manner. Participate in training and professional development programs to enhance leadership and operational effectiveness. Qualifications Minimum of 3 years of supermarket produce management or produce department leadership experience preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of fresh produce products, handling procedures, merchandising, and inventory management. Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and customer service abilities. Self-motivated with a high level of integrity and attention to detail. Strong mathematical and analytical skills for inventory control, ordering, and department performance management. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality and accuracy. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting, standing, bending, and working in refrigerated environments.
