Department Leader

Job Description

McMillan Electric is seeking a hands-on, results-driven Department Leader to lead daily manufacturing operations and help our team achieve high standards for safety, quality, delivery, efficiency, and continuous improvement. This role is ideal for a strong leader who enjoys being involved in day-to-day production, developing employees, solving problems, and finding better ways to get the job done. At McMillan Electric, safety is our top priority , and our Department Leaders play an important role in creating a safe, organized, productive, and positive work environment. What You'll Do Lead, manage, and hold accountable direct reports while providing the coaching, direction, and support they need to succeed. Champion a safety-first culture by identifying risks and developing and implementing improvements that maintain the highest level of workplace safety. Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organization, and housekeeping throughout the department. Plan, prioritize, and schedule daily work to meet production and customer requirements. Set up equipment and perform production changeovers as needed. Perform light equipment maintenance and assist with troubleshooting when necessary. Communicate and collaborate with other leaders to identify issues, solve problems, and keep operations running effectively. Drive improvements in efficiency, on-time delivery, quality, and overall operational performance . Promote a culture of continuous improvement throughout all phases of the production operation. Analyze production schedules, anticipate potential risks or constraints, and implement solutions before they impact production. Develop and implement effective employee training to strengthen skills, consistency, and performance. Coach and develop employees while identifying opportunities to improve team morale, engagement, and retention . Identify root causes contributing to internal defects and work with the appropriate teams to develop and implement corrective actions. Perform other duties as assigned. What We're Looking For Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to lead, develop, and hold a team accountable . Effective problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills. Working knowledge of production scheduling and inventory planning systems. Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Technical degree, bachelor's degree, or comparable industry experience . A proactive, continuous-improvement mindset and willingness to be hands-on in a manufacturing environment. Why McMillan Electric?
