What to Expect Optimus is Tesla's humanoid robot and one of the company's biggest moonshots to date. The Optimus robot program is where mechanics, electronics, controls, software, and manufacturing meet. As Optimus moves from prototype to production, the ability to diagnose and resolve issues quickly is as important as building new capabilities. The Diagnostics Engineering team builds the diagnostic and service tools used to troubleshoot and repair Optimus. You'll work side-by-side with service, manufacturing, firmware, and hardware partners to make the robot understandable, debuggable, and repairable at scale. This is a hands-on role. Expect time on the robot, tight iteration with technicians and engineers, and ownership of tools that directly affect uptime and production velocity. What You'll Do
Debug Optimus robots alongside service and manufacturing personnel
Design and develop diagnostic applications, including 3D visualizations of robot state, joint positions, sensor data, and system health
Partner with firmware and hardware engineers to define on-board diagnostics capabilities, telemetry interfaces, and alerting
Turn real pain points from engineers and technicians into better tools and workflows
Create diagnostic procedures, automated test sequences, and self-checkroutines that reduce mean time to resolution
Analyze field and factory data for recurring failure patterns and drivefixes with hardware and software teams
Continuously improve diagnostic and repair tooling based on what you see on the floor What You'll Bring
Degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
Python, C/C++, and/or embedded systems experience
Experience with complex electromechanical systemsand knowledge ofhow sensors,actuators, and controllers interact
Strong software fundamentals and system design instincts; you write toolspeople use under time pressure
Clear communicationskills and ability toexplain complex failures to diverse audiences
High agency and curiosity: you dig into how systems work and fail, and drive problems to closure
Hands-on experience with robots (industrial, humanoid, academic, or competition and familiarity with robotics protocols (CAN,EtherCAT, Ethernet)preferred
Experience building UI/visualization for real-time systemspreferred
Prior diagnostic, test, or field-support role for a physical productpref Compensation and Benefits

Expected Compensation
$113,424 - $248,880/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
