248689 Job Description Position Overview We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to serve as a Sales Engineer. The ideal candidate will bring 7+ years experience in engineered capital equipment, industrial systems, or custom-engineered products. This role blends deep technical expertise with customer-facing leadership, guiding clients through complex, engineered-to-order enclosure and modular building solutions. Key Responsibilities Technical Expertise & Solution Development- Serve as the technical authority on mechanical, electrical, and structural systems used in modular buildings and E-Houses.
- Interpret technical specifications, one-line diagrams, P&IDs, mechanical layouts, and construction documents.
- Develop engineered solutions aligned with customer requirements, codes, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Provide recommendations on power distribution, cooling/thermal management, enclosure layout, and integration of equipment. RFQ & Proposal Leadership
- Lead technical review and response for complex RFQs involving engineered capital equipment.
- Prepare detailed technical proposals, scope documentation, and spec clarifications.
- Ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with customer engineering standards. Customer Engagement & Relationship Management
- Conduct customer meetings, site visits, technical presentations, and design reviews across North America.
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor throughout long capital equipment sales cycles.
- Build strong relationships with end users, EPC firms, integrators, and contractors. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Sales, Applications Engineering, Product Engineering, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams.
- Ensure solutions are technically feasible, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
- Support design transfer and project kickoff activities.
- Support communication with customers throughout a projects, especially as changes arise. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years working with engineered products, capital equipment, industrial systems, or modular/packaged solutions.
- Ability to read/interpret one-lines, schematics, mechanical layouts, and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of industrial electrical systems, HVAC/cooling, equip integration, or enclosure design.
- Experience with engineered-to-order (ETO) project environments.
- Excellent communication skills; able to explain complex technical topics to customers.
- Proficiency with CRM platforms (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data center infrastructure, modular buildings, or enclosure systems.
- Knowledge of construction practices, MEP coordination, or design-build environments.
- Experience working with EPC firms or capital equipment procurement cycles.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus. Work Environment
- Onsite in Itasca, IL
- Regular travel (25-50%) across North America for customer visits, site walks, design reviews, and project evaluations.
