Job Description
Optician / Optical Sales Representative Palatka Vision Center Palatka Vision Center is seeking an experienced, personable, and motivated Optician / Optical Sales Representative to join our team. Florida optician licensure is preferred but not required; however, previous optical sales experience is required. We are looking for someone who is confident working with patients throughout the eyewear selection, ordering, fitting, and dispensing process. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ophthalmic lenses and frame styling and be comfortable helping patients make informed decisions based on their prescription, lifestyle, vision benefits, and budget. Responsibilities Assist patients with frame selection based on prescription, fit, lifestyle, and personal preference Educate patients on lens options, including materials, treatments, coatings, progressive designs, and other upgrades Accurately take optical measurements, including PDs and fitting heights Adjust, fit, dispense, and troubleshoot prescription eyewear Review and interpret eyeglass prescriptions Provide knowledgeable recommendations while creating a comfortable, patient-focused sales experience Enter and process eyewear orders accurately Verify completed eyewear for accuracy, fit, and quality Assist patients with understanding and maximizing their vision insurance benefits Collect appropriate patient payments and accurately document optical transactions Assist with frame inventory, displays, and maintaining an organized optical department Communicate with optical laboratories regarding orders, remakes, warranties, and troubleshooting as needed Work collaboratively with doctors, technicians, front desk staff, and other members of the practice
Qualifications Required:
Previous optical sales experience Working knowledge of prescription eyewear, lens options, coatings, and frame selection Experience taking optical measurements and fitting/adjusting eyewear Strong customer service and communication skills Comfortable discussing pricing and recommending products based on patient needs Ability to multitask and remain organized in a busy optometry practice Dependable, professional, and team-orientedPreferred:
Florida Licensed Dispensing Optician (LDO) Experience with AcuityLogic practice management/POS software Familiarity with ZEISS and Essilor lens products and laboratory ordering Experience working with vision insurance plans, particularly VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, Versant, and iCare Knowledge of vision insurance authorization, benefit interpretation, and eyewear billing Experience with premium lens products, progressive lens designs, and specialty lens options Compensation This position includes a base hourly rate plus commission, providing additional earning potential based on optical sales performance. The base pay listed for this position represents the guaranteed hourly rate and does not include additional commission earnings. Commission is earned in addition to base pay and will vary based on individual sales performance. Additional details regarding the commission structure and earning opportunities will be discussed during the interview process. About Our Practice Palatka Vision Center is a community-focused independent optometry practice providing comprehensive eye care and optical services. We take pride in building long-term relationships with our patients and providing personalized care rather than a one-size-fits-all retail experience. Our optical department works with a variety of lens designs and laboratory products, with ZEISS and Essilor products among those we use most frequently. We also work with several major vision insurance plans, including VSP, EyeMed, Spectera, Versant, and iCare. We are looking for someone who brings strong optical knowledge, genuine sales experience, and excellent patient care skills to our team. Licensed opticians are strongly encouraged to apply, but licensure is not required for candidates with strong optical sales experience.Pay:
