INSIDE SALES REPRESENTATIVE
— If You Know How to Turn Conversations Into Business, We Should Talk Comfort Services | Plainfield, IL | Full-Time | In Person Some people make phone calls. Some people read scripts. And then there are people who know how to have a real conversation, uncover what a customer actually needs, build trust, follow up at the right time, and turn an opportunity into business. That's who we're looking for. Comfort Services is hiring an experienced Inside Sales Representative to help us grow our HVAC and plumbing business. This is not a telemarketing job. This is not sitting at a desk hammering through a list and bothering people all day. And this definitely isn't a role for someone who thinks sales means talking faster than the customer. We're looking for someone who understands that great inside sales is about: Communication. Timing. Follow-up. Organization. Confidence. And knowing when to ask for the business. If that sounds like you, keep reading.
WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY BE DOING
You'll work with existing customers, previous customers, open opportunities, unsold estimates, service recommendations, and other qualified opportunities throughout our customer base. Your job is simple to explain: Make sure good opportunities don't disappear because nobody followed up.
You'll:
Follow up with customers after estimates and service visits Reconnect with customers who have recommended repairs or replacement opportunities Make outbound calls to existing and previous customers Respond to customer inquiries by phone, text, and email Help customers understand available services and options Ask questions to uncover what may be preventing a customer from moving forward Address reasonable objections professionally Schedule appointments and next steps Follow up consistently without becoming annoying Keep detailed notes on every customer interaction Manage a pipeline of open opportunities Stay organized with callbacks and follow-up dates Coordinate with our CSR, dispatch, service, plumbing, and management teams Help recover business that might otherwise be lost Track results and take ownership of your performance You won't just be making calls. You'll be managing opportunities.
THE PERSON WE WANT
The right person for this job probably has a little bit of salesperson, customer-service professional, detective, and bulldog in them. You know how to listen. You notice what people say—and what they don't say. You're comfortable asking another question. You aren't afraid of hearing "no." And if the answer is "not right now," you know that doesn't necessarily mean "never." You may be a great fit if: You have previous inside sales, outbound sales, customer service, or call-center experience You are extremely comfortable speaking with customers on the phone You can build rapport quickly You ask good questions instead of immediately launching into a pitch You can explain value clearly You can discuss pricing without becoming uncomfortable You can handle objections without becoming argumentative You know how to ask for the sale You understand the importance of follow-up You are persistent without being pushy You are organized You keep excellent notes You can manage a large number of open opportunities You learn software quickly You are comfortable working with goals and measurable results You don't take rejection personally You can accept coaching You want to improve your sales ability Most importantly: You actually follow up. Because in this role, "I forgot to call them back" is not a small mistake. That's literally the job.
YOU PROBABLY WON'T LIKE THIS JOB
IF... Let's save everybody some time. This probably isn't the position for you if: You hate talking on the phone You avoid calling people because you're worried they might say no You need customers to make every conversation easy You think following up once is enough You are uncomfortable asking for the business You lose track of callbacks Your notes consist of "customer thinking about it" You get discouraged easily You think sales goals are unfair You blame the leads every time you don't hit your numbers You need someone constantly reminding you what needs to be done You believe being friendly is the same thing as selling We want someone friendly. But we also need someone who can move a conversation forward.
SALES WITHOUT THE NONSENSE
We're not interested in creating a high-pressure boiler room. We're not interested in tricking customers. And we're not interested in forcing people into something they don't need. We believe strong salespeople do something much more valuable.
They:
Listen Ask questions Understand the problem Explain the value Address the concern Provide a clear next step And then actually ask the customer to move forward Sometimes that means booking an appointment. Sometimes that means following up next week. Sometimes the answer is simply no. That's okay. But we're not going to lose good business because nobody bothered to ask.
FOLLOW-UP IS WHERE THE MONEY IS A
customer may love the technician. They may need the repair. They may even fully intend to move forward. And then life happens. Work gets busy. The estimate sits in their email. A week passes. Then two. Then they forget about it. That's where you come in. A strong ISR doesn't just chase customers. A strong ISR keeps opportunities alive. You'll become the person who makes sure legitimate opportunities get the attention they deserve. That makes this role incredibly important to our growth.
YOU SHOULD LIKE NUMBERS
This is a sales position. That means performance matters. We will pay attention to things like: Calls and customer contacts Follow-up activity Appointments generated Opportunities converted Revenue generated Closing performance Pipeline activity Not because we want to micromanage you. Because results tell us what's working. If you're good at sales, you should WANT your performance measured. Good salespeople don't hide from scoreboards.
WHAT YOU SHOULD EXPECT FROM COMFORT SERVICES
If we're going to expect strong performance from you, you should expect something from us too. Strong Compensation Opportunity We believe people who help generate revenue should have an opportunity to benefit from the results they create.
We offer:
Competitive base compensation Performance-based incentive opportunities Additional earning potential based on results If you're good at this job, we want there to be a reason for you to get even better at it. Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance 401(k) 401(k) matching Paid time off FREE access to our company gym A Business With Real Opportunities to Work Comfort Services already serves a large customer base through our HVAC and plumbing departments. That means you're not being handed a phone book and told, "Good luck." There are real customers. Real service needs. Real estimates. Real opportunities. Your job is to make sure we're doing a better job of connecting those opportunities with the people who can help them. Coaching and Development Sales is a skill. Skills can be improved. We want someone who already has ability, but we're also looking for someone who wants to get better. We'll talk about calls. We'll talk about numbers. We'll talk about what's working. We'll talk about what isn't. If your response to coaching is: "Okay. How do I get better?" You'll probably do well here.
If your response is:
"That's just how I sell." We probably aren't a great match.

THINK YOU CAN SELL?
We're not asking whether you're outgoing. We're not asking whether people like you. We're asking something different: Can you take an opportunity that isn't moving... Have the right conversation... Understand what's stopping the customer... Follow up when everyone else would have forgotten... And help turn that opportunity into business? If the answer is yes, we should talk. Comfort Services is looking for an Inside Sales Representative who is organized, confident, persistent, coachable, and hungry to perform. If you're tired of sales jobs where nobody knows what you're supposed to accomplish—or where your best work doesn't get recognized—apply. We want to meet the people who know how to close the loop.
