Position Overview:
The Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving new business growth within our Solid Waste division through proactive, field-based sales efforts. This role focuses heavily on outside sales, relationship building, and developing new customer opportunities across commercial, industrial, and municipal markets. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, results-driven, and comfortable working independently in the field.Key Responsibilities:
Proactively identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities within the solid waste and recycling market Conduct regular in-person sales calls, site visits, and client meetings within an assigned territory Develop and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, including facility managers, operations leaders, and municipal contacts Understand client waste streams and operational needs to recommend appropriate solid waste, recycling, and environmental solutions Prepare and deliver sales proposals, pricing, and service agreements in collaboration with internal teams Maintain an active sales pipeline and accurately track activity, leads, and opportunities in CRM systems Meet or exceed monthly and annual sales targets Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and customer feedback to identify growth opportunities Collaborate with operations, customer service, and account management teams to ensure smooth onboarding and long-term customer satisfactionQualifications:
3+ years of outside sales or business development experience, preferably in solid waste, recycling, environmental services, or a related industry Dual Canadian-US Citizenship highly preferred Proven ability to generate new business and close deals through face-to-face sales efforts Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a field-based role Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within assigned territory Proficiency with CRM tools and Microsoft Office applicationsPreferred Experience:
- Knowledge of solid waste collection, disposal, recycling, or environmental compliance
- Experience selling service-based solutions in B2B environments
- Familiarity with municipal or industrial waste contracts What We Offer
