Base salary + performance compensation based on freight gross profit\ About Tuscarora Logistics Tuscarora Logistics is a growing transportation and logistics company serving customers throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Canada. We work with grain elevators, farms, feed mills, processors, food and ingredient manufacturers, railroads, trucking companies, and other agricultural businesses. Tuscarora Logistics currently manages a significant amount of truck and rail freight and is expanding into a larger standalone transportation business focused on agriculture, food, feed ingredients, and bulk commodities. We are seeking an experienced Agricultural & Bulk Freight Brokerage Manager to help lead that growth. The Opportunity This is primarily a business development and revenue-generation position , not a traditional dispatch role. The Agricultural & Bulk Freight Brokerage Manager will be responsible for developing new transportation customers, building a profitable book of external freight, expanding Tuscarora Logistics' carrier network, and developing recurring transportation lanes throughout our operating region. This role will initially focus exclusively on developing and managing external Tuscarora Logistics customers and will not be responsible for the day-to-day transportation of Tuscarora Grain loads. Our core focus is bulk agricultural and commodity transportation, including hopper-bottom freight, but the successful candidate will also have the ability to develop dry van, end dump, pneumatic, walking-floor, flatbed, and other transportation opportunities when they fit our customers' needs. The goal is not simply to move individual spot loads. The goal is to build long-term shipper relationships, recurring lanes, reliable carrier capacity, and a scalable transportation business. This individual will work closely with our logistics, trucking, operations, and management teams while being primarily measured on new external customer growth, freight gross profit, recurring volume, and customer retention. Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Transportation Sales Develop new transportation customers throughout the agricultural, food, feed, ingredient, processing, and bulk commodity industries. Prospect and build relationships with grain elevators, feed mills, processors, ingredient manufacturers, agricultural suppliers, fertilizer companies, food manufacturers, commodity merchants, and other bulk shippers. Build a standalone book of external Tuscarora Logistics business. Identify new transportation opportunities within Tuscarora's broader industry network. Build recurring transportation relationships rather than relying primarily on one-time spot freight. Conduct outbound prospecting, customer meetings, pricing discussions, and ongoing account development. Develop transportation solutions for customers with seasonal, rural, difficult-to-cover, or specialized freight needs. Grow a profitable book of business with an emphasis on gross profit and long-term customer value. Develop relationships that allow Tuscarora Logistics to handle multiple transportation needs for a customer rather than individual transactional loads. Agricultural & Bulk Freight Brokerage Quote and broker hopper-bottom and other bulk commodity freight. Develop and maintain a strong network of qualified bulk commodity carriers. Source carrier capacity and negotiate competitive carrier rates. Understand equipment requirements associated with agricultural and bulk transportation. Coordinate transportation involving grain, feed ingredients, food ingredients, fertilizer, seed, and other bulk commodities. Understand clean-trailer, washout, sanitation, food-grade, feed-grade, organic, non-GMO, and customer-specific transportation requirements when applicable. Work with carriers and customers to address loading, unloading, scheduling, weight, and facility-specific requirements. Maintain strong communication throughout the transportation process. Resolve service issues quickly and professionally. Maintain accurate customer, carrier, pricing, and load information within Tuscarora Logistics' transportation systems. Strategic Lane Development A major focus of this role will be building repeatable transportation lanes rather than simply chasing individual loads.
Responsibilities will include:
Identify high-volume and repeat freight corridors. Develop backhaul and round-trip opportunities. Build freight density around Tuscarora Logistics' broader transportation network. Analyze customer rates, carrier costs, gross profit, frequency, seasonality, and equipment availability. Identify opportunities where multiple customers can be combined into efficient freight networks. Develop reliable carrier capacity for strategic lanes.
