Centrica has successfully developed and implemented over 2,500 customer site infrastructure and energy projects in North America worth over $450 Million, resulting in guaranteed savings of over $150 Million. The Market Development Representative, Bring Your Own Power (BYOP) Solutions is responsible for originating new customer relationships and creating qualified sales opportunities for Centrica's distributed energy solutions portfolio. This role serves as the front end of Centrica's growth strategy by identifying organizations that may benefit from energy resiliency, cost reduction, sustainability, and energy infrastructure modernization solutions. The primary objective is to secure introductory meetings with prospective customers and develop qualified opportunities for Centrica's Business Development and Development teams. The ideal candidate is an energetic sales professional with 3-5 years of experience who enjoys prospecting, opening new accounts, and establishing executive-level relationships across solutions that include: Combined heat and power (CHP) Battery energy storage systems (BESS) Solar PV Microgrids Utility cost reduction and resilience solutions Open to flexible work schedules working fully remote or hybrid. This is a U.S.-based role with approximately 10-20% travel, primarily for customer meetings, industry conferences, and internal training events. The role includes significant daily interaction through telephone, video conferencing, CRM platforms, and digital prospecting tools. Our Market Development Representative, Bring Your Own Power Solutions contributes to the team by: Executing proactive outbound prospecting campaigns targeting qualified BYOP customer profiles through phone calls, email campaigns, LinkedIn, referrals, industry networking, and marketing-generated leads. Generating and scheduling introductory customer meetings for Centrica Business Development and Sales Executives while maintaining a minimum of 50 targeted outbound prospecting activities per week. Building target account lists across priority sectors and engaging decision-makers such as energy managers, facility directors, sustainability leaders, operations executives, CFOs, plant managers, data center operators, and real estate portfolio managers. Researching prospective customers to understand energy usage, resiliency concerns, sustainability objectives, utility constraints, expansion needs, and potential BYOP applications. Conducting initial discovery discussions, qualifying opportunities using established methodologies and customer-fit criteria, and documenting information for a complete, timely handoff to Business Development and Development teams. Partnering with Sales, Marketing, Development, Engineering, Operations, Post-Contract Services, and Product teams to coordinate introductions, campaigns, webinars, and lead-generation initiatives. Supporting regional sales managers and senior Account Executives with territory and account development efforts and ensuring smooth transitions from prospect engagement to active sales pursuit. Developing working knowledge of Centrica's BYOP offerings and staying informed on utility challenges, grid and transmission constraints, market trends, and distributed energy opportunities. Participating in trade associations, industry events, and customer networking activities while sharing customer insights and market intelligence with Sales leadership, Marketing, and Product teams. Maintaining accurate CRM records, tracking campaign and lead-conversion performance, and contributing to continuous improvement of prospecting, qualification, and opportunity handoff processes. The core components of success are (i.e. must haves): 3-5 years of experience in business development, inside sales, account development, lead generation, or a related customer-facing role. Proven success conducting outbound prospecting and appointment setting. Strong outbound prospecting, active listening, relationship-building, verbal, and written communication skills. Comfort initiating conversations with executive-level and technical stakeholders through telephone, email, social-selling, and virtual meeting channels. Ability to quickly understand customer business challenges, identify potential solution fit, and manage multiple campaigns, accounts, and priorities simultaneously. Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, resilience, curiosity, and accountability for measurable results. Experience using CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, or an equivalent system. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, CRM platforms, and digital prospecting tools. Desire to build a long-term career in distributed energy, energy infrastructure, and complex solution sales. The following are a definite plus, so if you've got it be sure to tell us! Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Energy Management, Finance, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent business development or sales experience may be substituted. Experience with consultative or solution-oriented selling. Energy industry, facilities, infrastructure, technology, or industrial sales experience.
Key success metrics include:
Minimum 50 targeted outbound prospecting activities per week. 8-12 qualified introductory customer meetings scheduled per month. Pipeline creation measured by qualified opportunities generated. New target accounts and relevant decision-makers engaged. Prospect-to-qualified-opportunity conversion and customer attendance rates. CRM activity compliance, data quality, and forecasting accuracy. Quality and completeness of handoffs to Business Development and Sales teams. Contribution to annual pipeline creation and bookings goals.
