Job Description
Outdoor Power Equipment Sales Associate Virginia Outdoor Power Equipment Company is looking for an outgoing, motivated Sales Associate to join our team. We are looking for a salesperson—not someone who waits for customers to come to them. The right person for this position is present, approachable, confident, and willing to start conversations. When a customer walks through the door, we expect our sales team to acknowledge them, approach them, ask questions, and help them find the right equipment for the job. If you enjoy talking to people, learning about equipment, and helping customers make the right purchase, this could be a great long-term career opportunity. What You'll Be Selling You'll help residential and commercial customers select equipment from some of the top brands in the outdoor power equipment industry, ranging from handheld products to large commercial equipment.
Products include:
Commercial and residential zero-turn mowers Riding and walk-behind mowers Chainsaws Trimmers and brush cutters Blowers Other handheld and outdoor power equipment Accessories, attachments, and related products We represent leading brands including STIHL, ECHO, SCAG, Toro, Honda, Hustler, and Ariens. This Is an ACTIVE Sales Position A major part of this job is customer interaction and taking initiative.We need someone who will:
Approach customers instead of waiting for them to ask for help Greet and acknowledge customers as they enter the dealership Start conversations and determine what the customer actually needs Be comfortable talking with homeowners, landscapers, contractors, and commercial customers Demonstrate and explain equipment Answer incoming phone calls confidently and professionally Follow up with customers and sales opportunities Stay engaged and aware of customers on the sales floor Take ownership of the customer experience from beginning to end If you are naturally outgoing, enjoy talking to people, and aren't afraid to walk up to a customer and start a conversation, we want to talk to you. Additional Responsibilities This position isn't limited to equipment sales. Our sales team is an important part of the overall dealership operation.You will also:
Check customers in when bringing equipment to our Service Department Listen to customers and accurately document equipment problems and service requests Enter customer and equipment information into our computer system Create and maintain sales and service transactions Communicate with the Service and Parts Departments Assist customers with product, parts, service, and general dealership questions Maintain an organized and professional sales area Equipment Knowledge & Training You do not need to know everything about outdoor power equipment on day one. We provide ongoing education and training to help our employees build their product and industry knowledge. Outdoor power equipment is constantly changing, and even experienced salespeople need to continue learning about new products, technology, promotions, warranty programs, battery equipment, and manufacturer programs. That said, some previous knowledge or familiarity with outdoor power equipment is preferred. Whether you've worked in the industry, used commercial lawn equipment, worked in landscaping, have mechanical knowledge, or simply have experience with this type of equipment, that background can be extremely helpful. We can teach product knowledge. You need to bring the personality, initiative, dependability, and willingness to learn. Computer Skills Are Required Our dealership relies heavily on computer-based systems. Applicants must be comfortable learning and working with technology. You should be able to confidently use computers for customer accounts, invoices, sales transactions, service intake, inventory information, product research, email, manufacturer websites, and other daily dealership functions. Spanish-Speaking Skills Speaking Spanish is NOT required for this position; however, it is a definite plus. We serve a diverse customer base, including many professionals in the landscaping and outdoor power equipment industries. The ability to communicate with customers in both English and Spanish can be extremely helpful and is a valuable skill in this industry. What We're Looking For The ideal candidate is: Outgoing and comfortable approaching people Friendly, professional, and confident Self-motivated and willing to take initiative Comfortable speaking with customers in person and over the phone Dependable and consistently present Comfortable using computers and learning new software Able to multitask in a busy dealership environment Willing to continually learn about equipment and the outdoor power industry Familiar with outdoor power equipment or willing and eager to learn Able to listen to customers and ask the right questions Interested in building relationships with repeat and commercial customers Looking for stable, long-term employment Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus, but not required Previous sales experience and/or outdoor power equipment knowledge is preferred, but we understand that the right candidate may not know every product we sell. We provide education and expect our sales staff to continually learn and improve.
