The HVAC-R Sales & Business Development Specialist is responsible for increasing installation sales, generating additional qualified service calls, expanding the company's residential and commercial market share, and improving customer follow-up. The employee will meet with customers at homes, businesses, and job sites; learn how to estimate project costs; prepare and present proposals; develop customer relationships; and coordinate approved projects with the installation, service, and office teams. Approximately 60% of the employee's time will involve communication by phone, text, and email. The remaining time will generally include customer meetings, site visits, estimating, internal coordination, training, networking, marketing, and other business-development activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Installation Sales and Estimating Meet with residential and commercial customers to identify their HVAC-R needs. Visit customer properties and active job sites to gather estimating information. Learn to estimate equipment, materials, labor, permits, subcontractors, equipment rentals, overhead, and other job costs. Work with technicians, installers, vendors, and management to develop the proper scope of work. Prepare accurate, professional, and timely customer proposals. Present repair, replacement, and system-improvement options clearly. Follow up on open estimates until the customer makes a decision. Obtain necessary approvals and documentation before scheduling work. Coordinate sold projects with purchasing, scheduling, installation, service, and office personnel. Maintain customer communication from the initial consultation through project completion. Help address communication problems or scope questions before they become customer complaints. Service Market Development Develop and carry out activities intended to generate additional qualified service calls. Contact previous customers, inactive accounts, property managers, commercial facilities, contractors, and prospective customers. Develop referral relationships with local businesses and community partners. Assist with seasonal promotions, customer reminders, email campaigns, text campaigns, and direct customer outreach. Identify underserved residential and commercial market opportunities. Track the sources of new customers, service calls, estimates, and installation projects. Review service-call volume, revenue, average invoice amount, conversion rates, and customer retention. Recommend changes when outreach activities are not producing measurable results. Customer Communication Communicate professionally by telephone, text, email, and in person. Respond to assigned leads during the same business day whenever practical. Maintain accurate records of customer conversations and promised follow-up. Explain technical recommendations in language the customer can understand. Listen to customer concerns and help identify an appropriate solution. Build long-term customer relationships instead of relying on high-pressure sales tactics. Represent the company professionally at customer locations, job sites, community events, and business meetings. Technology and Artificial Intelligence Use company software to maintain estimates, customer records, sales opportunities, tasks, and follow-up dates. Use approved AI tools to assist with research, customer communication, estimating support, proposals, presentations, marketing, organization, data analysis, and daily productivity. Verify the technical accuracy, pricing, tone, and completeness of AI-generated work. Never enter protected customer, employee, financial, or company information into an unapproved AI platform. Continue learning new AI tools and recommend practical uses that improve company efficiency or customer service.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Performance will be evaluated using measurements that include: Approved and collected installation revenue. Installation gross profit. Number and value of personally generated opportunities. Proposal closing percentage. Initial lead-response time. Percentage of estimates receiving documented follow-up. Accuracy and completeness of estimates. Accuracy of project handoffs to the installation team. Growth in qualified service calls. Growth in collected service revenue. Service customer retention. Average service invoice amount. Number of new residential and commercial customers. Customer satisfaction and complaint rate. Accuracy and completeness of customer records. Responsible and effective use of AI tools. Cooperation with the installation, service, dispatch, and office teams.
COMPENSATION
The position is compensated through a combination of: Base hourly wage. Installation commissions. Monthly service-growth bonuses. Other benefits provided under company policy. Average annual compensation is expected to range from approximately $70,000 to $98,000+, depending on performance, experience, sales volume, and service growth. This range is an estimate and is not a guarantee of earnings.
INSTALLATION COMMISSION
Installation commissions are based on the total approved transaction amount and are paid according to the company's written Install Sales Commission Schedule. Commission must be included in the bid amount and approved by the owner. Commission is earned and paid on the next regular payroll date after the customer has paid the applicable invoice 100%. No commission is payable on a canceled, refunded, written-off, or uncollected job. Any unauthorized discount or pricing change may affect commission eligibility.
SERVICE-GROWTH BONUS
Monthly service-call performance will be compared against the same calendar month from the previous year. A qualified service call is a completed and invoiced demand-service call. Maintenance visits, warranty calls, callbacks, canceled calls, duplicate calls, and no-charge visits do not count.
To receive the bonus:
Collected service revenue must also increase. The average service invoice cannot decrease by more than 5% compared with the same month of the previous year. Service calls and revenue must be accurately entered into the company's software. The employee must provide documentation of the outreach and business-development activities used to generate growth. Management must verify the results.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
HVAC-R, construction, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or building-industry experience. Sales, estimating, customer-service, account-management, or business-development experience. Experience working with residential and commercial customers. Experience with estimating, CRM, dispatching, or field-service software. Demonstrated professional use of AI tools.
