The Donation Center and 2nd HELPings Thrift Store are a vital part of that mission. Donated goods and furniture sales generate revenue that helps fund HELP of Ojai's community programs and services. The person in this role is often the public's first point of contact with the organization and helps keep this essential source of support running. General Summary This position's primary responsibility is to assist the Donation Center Manager in receiving, sorting, and pricing donations at HELP of Ojai's West Campus, and to help support the 2nd HELPings Thrift Store operation. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Assist with the daily functions of accepting donations, pricing donations, and keeping the Donation Center clean and organized. Review incoming donations against HELP of Ojai's acceptance guidelines and, when needed, politely decline items the organization is unable to accept. Help load, transport, and deliver donations as needed. Move, arrange, and clean donated furniture and other large items, keeping the Donation Center and work areas orderly and presentable. Operate the cash register and accurately process furniture and other sales transactions, including handling cash and payments. Help manage and work alongside volunteers at the Donation Center and 2nd HELPings Thrift Store. Step in to support the 2nd HELPings Thrift Store as needed. For example, helping on the sales floor or at the register during busy periods or staffing gaps. Support the set-up, operation, and clean-up of the Saturday Sale through September 2026. Be a positive face of HELP of Ojai when interacting with volunteers and the public. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; outdoor work is required at this time, in a range of weather conditions. Frequent moving, lifting, and arranging of furniture and other large, heavy, or bulky donated items, using proper technique and team lifts as needed. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Prolonged standing and walking, with regular bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing or pulling of loaded carts or dollies. Routine cleaning of donated items and work areas, including dusting, wiping, sweeping, and sanitizing. Exposure to dust and to donated household goods of varying condition. Technical Requirements Basic understanding of general pricing and accounting practices. Experience with cash handling and operating a cash register or point-of-sale system is required. Other Requirements & Qualifications Organized, with high attention to detail. Genuinely on board with HELP of Ojai's mission; supportive of the work and motivated to represent the organization well in the community. Enjoys working with older adults. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. Ability to work individually and as part of a team. Help direct and support volunteers. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends. Friendly and customer-service oriented, with a warm, welcoming manner toward donors and the public. Able to say "no" with tact: courteously declining donations that fall outside HELP of Ojai's guidelines while keeping the interaction positive. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and the daily needs of the Donation Center and thrift store. Valid California driver's license and the ability to drive a vehicle for donation pickups and deliveries. Equipment Point-of-sale system, computer, cell phone, hand trucks, dollies, rolling carts, pricing tools. HELP of Ojai vehicle for travel between locations. Work Schedule The standard schedule is Wednesday through Saturday. The donation center is open to the public Thursday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
