Role Description:
Livestock Research Assistant will serve as a key role in the execution of daily management and routine care of livestock in accordance with study specific requirements, with additional opportunities providing variety and exposure across the industry. The day-to-day role of a Livestock Research Assistant will vary, but the primary focus of the position is caregiving and management of livestock with an emphasis on detailed data collection and adherence to research protocols.
Primary Responsibilities:
Daily caregiving of livestock per the requirements of protocols and standard operating procedures. Routine maintenance to ensure functionality of facilities and equipment. Generate accurate records of experimental procedures, observations and results using Good Documentation Practices to ensure data integrity. Willingness to collaborate with teammates. High level of professionalism and eagerness to learn. Willingness to speak up and challenge against norms to improve the performance of the business. Participate in weekly meetings and be prepared to provide updates to the broader team on items pertinent to your assigned area of livestock care.
Minimum Qualifications:
Practical experience with livestock handling, feeding, animal health monitoring and general livestock care (primarily cattle). A high school diploma, secondary education level or equivalent. Ability to work regularly outdoors in all seasons and various weather conditions. Comfortable working independently, taking ownership of tasks, and making sound decisions, while also contributing effectively as part of a team. Reliable, accountable, and highly detail oriented.
Strong communication skills:
Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in animal science or of agricultural relevance. At least 4 years of experience within the cattle/livestock industry. Experience and the ability to operate heavy machinery and equipment.
Travel:
This role is based out of Manhattan, KS with primary locations in the broader surrounding area with daily travel to those nearby areas. Approximately 10% overnight travel will be required as study activities warrant.
Pay:
From $60,000.00 per year
