We are hiring an experienced Coin Specialist to authenticate, grade, value, buy and sell coins and currency for our collector and investor clients. You will be the in-house authority on U.S. and world coinage, bullion and paper money, and the trusted face of our numismatic department. The right candidate pairs a sharp eye for detail with deep market knowledge and a genuine enthusiasm for helping collectors build and manage their collections. Key responsibilities Authentication and grading Examine coins, tokens, medals and paper currency to confirm authenticity and detect counterfeits, alterations, cleaning and repairs. Grade raw coins accurately on the Sheldon 70-point scale, consistent with PCGS, NGC and CAC standards. Identify die varieties, errors, mint marks and key dates using references such as the Red Book, Cherrypickers' Guide and die-variety databases. Decide which coins merit third-party grading and prepare submissions. Valuation and purchasing Appraise individual coins, collections, hoards and estates for purchase, consignment, insurance or estate settlement. Make competitive, fair cash offers using current market data (CDN Greysheet, auction records, dealer networks). Evaluate bullion and track daily precious-metal spot prices. Sales and client relationships Advise walk-in, phone and online clients on buying, selling and building collections. Develop repeat relationships with collectors, investors, estate attorneys and other dealers. Represent the company at coin shows, auctions and industry events. Meet monthly sales and acquisition targets. Inventory and operations Catalog, photograph and write accurate descriptions for inventory, website and auction listings. Price inventory in line with market movement and maintain accurate records in the inventory system. Follow security, cash-handling and compliance procedures, including
AML/KYC, IRS
Form 8300 and 1099-B reporting where required. Train and mentor junior staff on grading and authentication. Required qualifications At least 5 years of professional experience as a numismatist, coin dealer, grader or authenticator. Proven ability to grade U.S. coins accurately and consistently, including circulated and Mint State examples. Strong working knowledge of U.S. coinage series, key dates, varieties and major counterfeits. Demonstrated experience buying and pricing coins and collections profitably. Familiarity with bullion products and precious-metals markets. Excellent customer service and negotiation skills. High school diploma or equivalent. Able to pass a background check and to be bonded. Preferred qualifications Bachelor's degree in history, art history, business or a related field. Completion of ANA Summer Seminar courses or ANA Numismatic Diploma Program; PCGS or NGC grading courses. Membership in the American Numismatic Association (ANA) or Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG). Expertise in a specialty area such as world coins, ancients, paper money, tokens or error coins. Experience with coin photography and e-commerce or auction platforms. Established network of collectors, dealers and wholesalers. Skills and competencies Attention to detail: spots subtle surface problems, tooling and die characteristics under magnification.

explains grading and value clearly to novice and advanced collectors alike.
Tools:
loupes, stereo microscopes, precision scales, calipers, XRF or Sigma Metalytics testers, and inventory/POS software.
Organization:
manages high-value inventory accurately under time pressure. Working conditions Work takes place mainly in a secure retail or office setting, with extended periods of close visual inspection. Occasional evening and weekend work, plus travel to coin shows, auctions and client appraisals (about 10-20%). Must be able to lift up to 50 lb (bullion and coin boxes).
