Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE
Assistant/Associate Professor of Advanced Manufacturing Technology / FAME AMT Department Chair will teach classes within the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Program and serve as the lead faculty member for the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program. The position is responsible for delivering classroom and laboratory instruction, coordinating employer partnerships, integrating Manufacturing Core Exercises (MCEs) and Professional Behaviors throughout the curriculum, supporting student success, and ensuring alignment with workforce and industry needs.GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
TEACHING Serve as a student advocate and provide student-centered learning opportunities. Conduct classroom and laboratory instruction at the highest possible level of quality. Evaluate students regularly and fairly based on course outcomes and objectives. Promote professionalism, safety, problem solving, and critical thinking skills. Grade assignments and respond to student communications in a timely manner. Maintain current course content and instructional materials. Provide instruction for credit and non-credit AMT and IMT courses.PROGRAM COORDINATION
Serve as lead instructor and department chair for theFAME AMT/IMT
programs. Deliver Manufacturing Core Exercises (MCEs) and Professional Behaviors curriculum. Complete required FAME train-the-trainer requirements and maintain program standards. Coordinate with employer partners regarding student progress, schedules, work-based learning, recruitment, and retention. Integrate Lean Manufacturing principles, continuous improvement, reliability, and safety culture throughout instruction. Support advisory committees, grant activities, accreditation efforts, reporting, and assessment processes. Monitor evolving industry trends and incorporate relevant technologies and practices into curriculum. Represent Navarro College at FAME meetings, conferences, training sessions, and employer events. Collaborate with dual credit and workforce staff to support AMT/IMT programs. Assist with student recruitment, marketing, retention, placement, and employer engagement activities.COURSE MANAGEMENT
Utilize adopted instructional materials and maintain compliance with college policies and procedures. Prepare and upload syllabi and course materials by established deadlines. Maintain classroom and laboratory environments that support student learning and safety. Meet all scheduled classes and laboratory periods and remain with students during instructional activities.PROFESSIONALISM AND CONTINUED IMPROVEMENT
Participate in professional development and industry training opportunities. Maintain current technical knowledge and relevant industry credentials. Collaborate effectively with colleagues, employers, and workforce partners. Actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and program effectiveness. SERVICE Attend required college meetings, professional development activities, and commencement exercises. Advise students and participate in faculty-centered student advising activities. Support recruitment events, Career Day activities, advisory meetings, and other college functions. Perform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrated knowledge of advanced manufacturing systems, industrial maintenance, automation, mechatronics, and manufacturing processes. Ability to teach complex technical concepts to diverse student populations. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate with multiple manufacturing employers and community partners. Ability to utilize instructional technology and multimedia tools. Commitment to safety culture, Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement. Demonstrated knowledge of advanced manufacturing operations and workplace safety.POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Associate degree in Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Automation, Electronics, Engineering, or a closely related field; or associate degree with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline. Minimum three years of manufacturing experience, preferably in industrial maintenance, automation, controls, production systems, or related fields. Ability to obtain and maintain required FAME instructor training.Preferred:
Bachelor's or master's degree in a related technical discipline; or bachelor's or master's degree with demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline. Five or more years of manufacturing experience. Community college, technical education, apprenticeship, or industry training experience. Industry certifications related to automation, PLCs, electrical systems, robotics, maintenance, Lean, or Six Sigma. Experience with work-based learning, apprenticeships, internships, or employer-sponsored training programs.WORKING CONDITIONS
Variances from regular working hours may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Busy working environment with numerous interruptions. May require travel to employer partner facilities, conferences, recruiting events, and training activities. Work may occur in classroom, laboratory, manufacturing, and industrial environments.SALARY :
