Operations Manager Scope:
The Sanitation Manager is responsible for all plant sanitation and development, implementing, and enforcing hygiene standards and cleaning protocols to ensure regulatory compliance and safety. This role will provide onsite leadership and oversees sanitation and custodian staff, develop procedures, drive continuous improvement and prevent contamination risks, including microbiological, allergen and cross contact hazards. 1. Sanitation Program Development Maintain, create, and reassess written SSOP (sanitation standard operating procedures) that will effectively accomplish the task of ensuring product safety.

Oversea daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation and custodial operations.

Establish Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) for all production and non-production areas Identify sanitation improvement opportunities to reduce risk, improve efficiency, and support continuous improvement goals. Validate cleaning processes for equipment, utensils, and facilities 2. Regulatory Compliance & Food Safety Support FDA inspections and third-party audits (e.g., NSF, SQF, GMP certifications) Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards 3. Environmental Monitoring & Contamination Control Oversee environmental monitoring programs (EMP), including swabbing and microbial testing Investigate out-of-spec results and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) Manage allergen control and cross-contamination prevention programs 4. Team Leadership & Training Supervise sanitation technicians and custodial staffTrain employees in GMPs, hygiene practices, chemical handling, and sanitation procedures Drive a culture of food safety and continuous improvement 5. Chemical & Equipment Management Approve and manage cleaning chemicals (e.g., sanitizers, detergents) Ensure proper dilution, storage, labeling, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) compliance Coordinate cleaning of processing equipment (e.g., blenders, encapsulation machines, tablet presses) Coordinate with Maintenance on equipment teardown, reassembly and hygienic design issues.

Support timely start-ups of production lines by ensuring all departments and lines are cleaned and sanitized in a timely manner and properly documented 6. Documentation & Audit Readiness Maintain sanitation records, logs, and verification documentation Review pre-operational inspection reports Lead internal audits and ensure readiness for regulatory and customer audits 7. Qualifications High school diploma required; bachelor's degree in food science, environmental health, or related field preferred 3-5+ years of sanitation or facility management experience 2-3+ years in a supervisory or management role Knowledge of sanitation standards, chemical handling, and safety regulations Experience with audits and regulatory complianceFlexible schedule to ensure coverage among two plants and two shifts Competencies To be successful in this position, the associate must: Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • The associate will frequently be required to stand for long periods of time and to occasionally sit, bend, or stoop to perform certain tasks.
  • The associate will frequently be required to make coordinated hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects.
  • The associate will occasionally be required to move up and down stairs.
  • The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The associate must be able to wear personal PPE, including gloves, masks, etc., when required. Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
  • Associates in the plant may be exposed to raw ingredients and food allergens (milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, shellfish, soy, wheat).
