Sawyer & Sawmill Laborer

Position Summary:

The Sawyer is responsible for operating sawmill equipment safely and efficiently to process white pine logs into dimensional lumber. This position requires attention to detail, equipment operation skills, and a strong commitment to safety and production goals. This is a full-time position located at the New London, NH facility. The hours and days of operation are generally Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM - 3:30 PM; however, hours may vary based on production needs. This position also requires floating to various areas of the mill as needed. Key Responsibilities Operate sawmill equipment and related machinery Inspect logs for size, grade, defects, and optimal cutting patterns Monitor lumber for quality standards Monitor lumber dimensions and adjust equipment settings as needed Maintain steady production flow while minimizing waste and downtime Conduct routine equipment inspections and basic preventive maintenance Assist with saw changes, alignment, and troubleshooting as needed Float to other areas of the mill and assist with production operations as required Maintain a clean and organized work area Follow all company safety policies and PPE requirements Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and production problems promptly Other Duties as assigned Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly Ability to work in noisy, dusty, and varying temperature conditions Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and perform repetitive motions Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment Work Environment Industrial sawmill environment processing white pine lumber Exposure to wood dust, moving machinery, vibration, and varying noise levels Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and all weather conditions Walking on slippery or uneven surfaces may be required from time to time Hearing protection is required in designated areas of the facility Buildings and grounds are non-smoking except in designated smoking areas
