Job Description
Part-Time Closing Scale Operator We are seeking a reliable and customer-focused Part-Time Closing Scale Operator to join our team. This is a year-round, part-time position with regular weekday afternoon hours and additional Saturday morning hours during the summer season. The Part-Time Closing Scale Operator follows direction from the Logistics Manager and is responsible for assisting customers, operating the scale system, processing payments, answering phone calls, and completing general clerical duties. This position plays an important role in providing accurate, efficient, and professional service to customers and supporting daily operations. Schedule This is a part-time, year-round role .

1:00 PM to 5:00 PM Seasonal Saturday schedule: Saturday mornings from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM during the summer season, generally from Earth Day in April through the weekend before the Minnesota firearms deer hunting season in November. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The essential functions of this position may include, but are not limited to: Visually verify inbound and outbound vehicles on the scale deck and enter weights into the computer system. Visually verify material type and enter the appropriate material code into the scrap software system. Process customer payments and verify that customer information, material tickets, and pricing are accurate. Handle cash office responsibilities, including sorting tickets and dispensing cash to customers. File appropriate paperwork to support customer payments and daily transactions. Answer incoming phone calls, provide directions, respond to questions, and direct calls to the appropriate person or department. Assist customers in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. Perform clerical duties, including entering information, managing records, and developing reports. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for the role. Preferred 1-3 years of experience in the scrap, recycling, logistics, customer service, cashiering, or a closely related industry. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers, vendors, coworkers, and management. Must be dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling cash and customer transactions. Must possess a valid driver's license. Language Skills Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively communicate information in one-on-one and small group situations. Technology Skills Must be comfortable using technology and computer programs such as email, spreadsheet software, and other locally used programs. Required computer skills include intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel and the ability to learn industry-specific scrap software. Mathematical Skills Basic math skills are required, including counting, rounding, estimating measurements, and handling cash transactions. The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals is required. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to work through standardized situations with occasional or limited variables.
