Aug 25, 2026 Job Description Welcome to Maine School Administrative District #75 Serving Maine's Midcoast communities of Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Harpswell, and Topsham, MSAD 75 is home to over 2,350 students and more than 600 faculty and staff members. MSAD 75 is seeking a School Nurse at Harpswell Community School to join our vibrant educational community. Together, we can inspire the next generation of learners and leaders. Job Goal(s): Strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children. Help prevent illness and disability through the early detection and correction of behaviors related to health problems. The District remains committed to placing School Nurses where they can most effectively support our students. Specific assignments and locations may be shifted based on student needs around the District.Qualifications:
Valid State of Maine Registered Professional Nurse License required Valid State of Maine Department of Education School Nurse PreK-12 (524) certification required Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; or matriculated into a bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university Valid State of Maine Department of EducationCriminal History Record Check (CHRC) authorization required Minimum three years nursing experience required Previous experience as a School or Pediatric nurse preferred How to apply for or renew a CHRC/CertificationPerformance Responsibilities:
Recommend M.S.A.D. No. 75 policies and philosophy related to the District Health Services Program. Participate in developing, implementing, and evaluating District Health Services goals, objectives, procedures, and standing orders. Participate in planning that promotes health equity and student well being. Promote and maintain health and well being of students, families, and school personnel by teaching and providing direct on-site care as necessary. Participate as needed on IEP and 504 plans: assist in the identification of students with health conditions and disabilities, interpret health factors pertinent to the student's disability and develop, implement, and evaluate the health component of the individual educational plan. Assist students and parents in identifying and utilizing available and appropriate health resources. Implement an individual plan for the care of students with chronic health conditions and disabilities and students needing treatments or medications. Develop individualized health plans with specific goals, objectives and interventions based on student health needs. Oversee District Health Aides. Administer medications and treatments to students per physician order and parent authorization. Assist in the prevention of communicable diseases. Educate faculty, parents, and students about communicable diseases. Monitor communicable diseases and report to the ME CDC as necessary. Monitor immunization status and refer for appropriate vaccinations according to Maine State law. Perform required State health screenings and reporting. Develop and maintain a system of first aid, recommend school safety measures, and promote a healthful school environment Participate in the development and maintenance of a system for providing first aid and emergency care such as the school Emergency Response Team or District Safety Team Participate in identifying and reporting current or potential environmental health and safety hazards for students and staff. Provide training to District staff according to Maine State law. Provide health education. Provide consultation and assistance to teachers in their planning, implementation, and evaluation of health education units. Provide health counseling to students to assist them in making decisions regarding their health and health behaviors. Arrange and/or provide in-service education opportunities for District staff on health related issues Assume responsibility for personal professional development and continuing education. Complete yearly goal setting for professional growth. Participate in self evaluation of performance and continuing education activities. Collect data and maintain records within professional and legal boundaries and District guidelines. Annually review student health information and health care plans Collaborate to provide statistical information regarding health status of students and staff and utilization of District Health Services. Provide guidance and supervision to Health Aides in providing District Health Services in accordance with Maine Board of Nursing Rule Chapter 6 (Regulations Relating to Coordination and Oversight of Patient Care Services by Unlicensed Health Care Assistive Personnel.) Contribute to the wellbeing of our school community by responding to emerging healthcare needs and providing health-centered support across various District locations as guided/directed by the School Principal(s) and/or School Based Clinical Coordinator.
