Job Announcement
  • May 01, 2026 School Nurse The position for a School Nurs e will be available at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 school year.
All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. The deadline for submitting an application is 4:00 pm., May 11, 2026, or until the position is filled.
Primary Purpose:
Implement a comprehensive program of health services for the campus. Provide health services to students. Promote health education and preventive health practices for students.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, individualized health care plans (IHPs), and established school health protocols. Serve as a health advocate for students. Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached). Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school. Administer medications according to district policy and procedures. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students. Establish and implement effective procedures for mandatory screening programs. Make referrals as necessary. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of campus health programs and make changes based on findings. Participate in the development of campus health education curriculum and provide health education to individuals and groups. Develop and recommend campus policies and procedures to promote the health and wellness of students and staff. Provide health counseling and instruction to individual students. Serve as health liaison between school, physicians, parents, and community. Assess student problems and make appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals as needed. Serve as a liaison between school personnel, the family, health care professionals, and the community. Participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee, crisis team, and school committees and develops Individual Health Plan. Collaborate with other professionals regarding the implementation of health-related Individual Education Plan (IEP) items. Participate in the assessment and reporting of suspected child abuse. Make home visits to help with student health problems as necessary with the permission of the principal. Collaborate regularly with the principal, health services coordinator, parents, food services, and other staff, and provide leadership to ensure a healthy school environment. Review and evaluate immunization records. Supervise and train nurse aide(s), district personnel, and LVN(s) in-clinic procedures and responsibilities according to district policy. Requisition supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the health services area. Provide required annual training to campus staff (bloodborne pathogens, AED, anaphylaxis, etc.). Report potential health and safety hazards to the principal. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Maintain certification in CPR, vision and hearing screening, and as a health screener. Model behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible. Perform other duties as assigned.
Note:

Qualifications:
Education/Certification/Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience :
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening CPR Certification and AED certificates Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Two years of nursing experience, preferably in community health Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects Ability to implement policies and procedures

Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting. Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension. Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases.
