Hicks & Company is a turnkey environmental firm located in Austin, Texas. Our team includes archeologists, architectural historians, ecologists, social scientists, geologists, GIS analysts, and other professionals who work together to deliver highly successful projects for clients like TxDOT, TPWD, local governments, and others across the state.
WHO YOU ARE
You are a curious, experienced archeologist with a degree in archeology, anthropology, or a related field. You have strong writing skills, demonstrated professional experience, and an interest in deepening your expertise and furthering your career. You have a working knowledge of the state and federal regulations that guide our work and are committed to understanding the bigger picture of the work that we do.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Our team is looking for both early career (≥5 years' experience) and mid-level (≥10 years' experience) archeologists to support our Principal Investigator on upcoming projects such as state and local parks, trails, and recreation projects, TxDOT projects, and city and county development and infrastructure projects. These roles are full-time, salaried positions based in Austin with travel throughout Texas. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Responsibilities of a Field Technician will include: Conducting archeology field work (Phases I, II, and III) as part of a team under the Antiquities Code of Texas and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Record keeping, note taking, and photo documentation in the field; In-office data management following field efforts; Serving as co-author for archeological reports, archeological background studies, research designs, etc.; Contributing to laboratory analysis and curation efforts; and Performing other duties as needed. Responsibilities of a Project Archeologist will include all of the above and: Serving as a leader for field crews and assisting our Principal Investigator in upholding company standards; Ensuring all materials generated in the field are complete and technically accurate; Managing field efforts at the Principal Investigator's direction; Being principally responsible for report writing at the direction of the Principal Investigator; and Providing other support to the Principal Investigator, as needed.
