NCOM - Section Chief, Biochemistry/Physiology Niazee College of Osteopathic Medicine (NCOM) provides academic, administrative, and clinical-integration leadership through the Section Chief, Biochemistry/Physiology , overseeing biochemistry and physiology education across the four-year curriculum. The Section Chief ensures a vertically integrated, clinically relevant, student-centered curriculum aligned with NCOM's mission, Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP), nutritionally forward approach, and COCA accreditation standards. The Section Chief advances NCOM's whole-person approach to osteopathic medical education by integrating structure, function, metabolism, host defense, and osteopathic principles. Responsibilities include curriculum collaboration, faculty oversight, instructional quality, assessment development, accreditation support, and scholarly activity. You'll be part of a founding team shaping the future of osteopathic medical education, where your voice, expertise, and leadership directly influence institutional growth and student success. To thrive/succeed as the NCOM - Section Chief, Biochemistry/Physiology, you should have: PhD, DO, MD, PharmD, or equivalent terminal degree in Biochemistry, Physiology, or a closely related biomedical or health sciences discipline, with demonstrated expertise in foundational biomedical education. Minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in medical or healthcare professional education, with expertise in modern instructional methods including team-based learning (TBL), problem-based learning (PBL), flipped classroom, and interactive teaching approaches. Prior experience in academic leadership, course coordination, curriculum development, assessment design, interprofessional collaboration, or accreditation activities is preferred. Ability to connect biochemistry and physiology concepts to clinical reasoning, pathophysiology, osteopathic principles, and whole-person patient care; experience within an osteopathic medical education environment is preferred. Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to support faculty development, advance scholarly activity, and thrive in a dynamic, evolving academic environment. Your responsibilities as the NCOM - Section Chief, Biochemistry/Physiology will include:
Lead Osteopathic and Clinical Curriculum Integration:
Direct the development and delivery of biochemistry and physiology instruction that integrates Osteopathic Principles and Practice (OPP), osteopathic tenets, and clinical applications, emphasizing connections between metabolism, homeostasis, autonomic regulation, biomechanics, and disease processes. Collaborate in
Integrated Curriculum Development:
Partner with foundational science, OMM/OPP, and clinical faculty to design organ-system modules that bridge molecular mechanisms with clinical reasoning, diagnostics, therapeutics, nutrition, and osteopathic care principles.
Oversee Instructional Delivery and Assessment:
Ensure high-quality, clinically focused teaching through active learning strategies and oversee the development of COMLEX-aligned clinical vignette assessments, curriculum evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Provide Faculty Leadership and Development:
Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and support biochemistry and physiology faculty while promoting team teaching, innovative pedagogy, board-style assessment development, and scholarly engagement.
Advance Research and Scholarly Activity:
Foster scholarship in molecular medicine, metabolism and nutrition, clinical physiology, osteopathic integration, and health sciences education.
Support Accreditation and Quality Improvement:
Ensure alignment with COCA accreditation standards, curriculum mapping, learning outcomes, and continuous quality improvement processes. Participate in
