Job Description

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for a Laboratory Research Assistant. Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is dedicated to understanding life at the biochemical, genetic and cellular level. Our major goals are to make discoveries that provide new knowledge regarding the mechanisms that drive cellular systems and to move these findings from the bench to the bedside. Our second and equally important goal is to educate the next generation of highly-trained and capable scientists and physician investigators.

JOB DUTIES
Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities such as: general housekeeping, Western blot assays, ELISA assays, cell viability assays, cell migration assays, DNA transfection, preparing solutions and buffers, cell cultures, transfection, mouse studies etc. Assist with literature research and maintenance of a laboratory notebook, editing and preparing manuscripts for publication. Perform administrative duties and/or other laboratory technicians; assisting in developing policies, procedures and/or methods for laboratory experimentation; and ordering supplies. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education :
Bachelor of Science degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or cell biology or in a field related to the cancer research.
Preferred Experience :
Research experience with mammalian cell culture and mouse study.

Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
