Our proprietary technology uses naturally occurring microorganisms to convert biogas into polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), a fully biodegradable bioplastic with the potential to replace a significant portion of fossil-based plastics.

Compensation:
$15.16-$20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

Immediate About the Role We are seeking a Part-Time Microbiology/Molecular Biology Research Technician to support research and development activities focused on microbial cultivation, molecular biology, and strain engineering. This role will report directly to the Head of Synthetic Biology. This is an excellent opportunity for a student, recent graduate, or early-career scientist looking to gain hands-on experience in industrial biotechnology and synthetic biology. This role is temporary with the possibility of extension or a transition into a full-time role after 6 months. Key Responsibilities Isolate, cultivate, and maintain microbial cultures, including methanotrophic and associated bacterial strains. Prepare, label, and maintain culture stocks, media, reagents, and laboratory solutions. Assist with molecular biology techniques including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, and cloning methods such as Golden Gate Assembly and Gibson Assembly. Support genetic engineering and strain characterization experiments. Assist with genomic data organization and MinION sequencing. Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, inventories, and experimental records. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, thermocyclers, autoclaves, etc. Follow aseptic techniques and assist with contamination prevention and troubleshooting. Help develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs). Participate in team meetings and communicate results and observations effectively. Support a safe, organized, and collaborative laboratory environment. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma with relevant laboratory coursework, or enrollment in/completion of an associate or bachelor's degree program in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field. Eligible to work in the United States. Laboratory experience through coursework, undergraduate research, internships, or employment. Basic understanding of microbiology and molecular biology concepts. Ability to work independently and follow established protocols. Willingness to learn new techniques and contribute to a growing team. Preferred Qualifications Experience with microbial culture techniques and aseptic procedures, including anaerobic or similar gas-dependent culturing methods Familiarity with PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, or related molecular biology methods. Experience maintaining laboratory records and following SOPs. Exposure to synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, microbial biotechnology, or environmental microbiology. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, R, or similar software. What We Offer Flexible part-time schedule accommodating class and research commitments.
