Tracker/Biological Monitor for Mojave Desert Tortoise Req #8429 Fort Irwin, CA 92310, USA Apply Share Job Description Posted Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 1:00 AM SpecPro Professional Services, LLC is an environmental, energy, and facility services firm headquartered in San Antonio, TX. We are a subsidiary of Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC). SpecPro is seeking motivated professionals to support field operations for a Mojave Desert Tortoise (MDT) Monitoring Project at Ft. Irwin, CA. We are specifically seeking individuals proficient in radio tracking who are approved (by USFWS) for transmitter removal and attachment with experience on MDT projects. The position requires working independently in desert environments in potentially extreme weather conditions. Applicants should have a vehicle capable of traversing rugged, rocky, sandy roads.
What You'll Do:
Conduct MDT radio telemetry tracking Perform transmitter removals and attachments Collect accurate, complete scientific data. Both digitally and on paper Proficient, independent navigation in challenging environments Manage personal workload and coordinate schedules with project manager Other duties as assigned
What You Bring:
Required:
Proficient Radio Tracking experience Previous USFWS Approval to Attach/Remove transmitters on MDT Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or related field Minimum 2 years of professional terrestrial biology experience MDT project specific experience Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections. Experience preparing biological monitoring reports and collecting scientific data Experience conducting surveys and monitoring for wildlife species in Southern California Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections. Ability to hike long distances over varied terrain and weather conditions
